New Delhi: An incident has emerged from Jammu and Kashmir that raised questions about security arrangements. A suspicious vehicle attempted to flee after breaching a police security checkpoint, but the administration’s prompt action thwarted the attempt. On Friday morning, a suspicious Scorpio vehicle tried to escape after breaking through a security checkpoint on the Jammu-Srinagar highway in Ramban district, catching the police personnel off guard.
Acting swiftly in the interest of security, the police intercepted the vehicle. The identities of the occupants remain unknown. The Indian Army and paramilitary forces have now joined the local police in launching a search operation. Security checks at police checkpoints have also been intensified to identify the suspects.

Officials stated that the incident occurred at 3:30 AM on Friday. Items were also recovered from the intercepted vehicle. A white Scorpio (registration number JK02AK-1743) was travelling from Srinagar towards Jammu. When it reached a security checkpoint in the Chanderkote area of Ramban, personnel signalled it to stop.
Instead of stopping, the driver accelerated and sped towards Nashri, breaching the checkpoint in the process. Security forces immediately gave chase and fired three rounds into the air to halt the vehicle, but the driver refused to stop. Taking advantage of the darkness, the driver managed to escape completely. An alert was issued for NH-44 as soon as news of the checkpoint breach was received, and multiple police teams rushed to pursue the vehicle.

It was found abandoned on a link road in Papariyan village, which falls under the local police station’s jurisdiction,n about 88 kilometres away from the highway.
The identities of the driver and the vehicle’s occupants remain unknown. The police have seized the vehicle and brought it to the station. A search operation has been launched to apprehend the individuals who fled. Police suspect that the vehicle may have been carrying anti-social elements.
Occupants Fled Under Cover of Darkness
A search operation is underway to locate the three suspects who abandoned the vehicle and fled. Searching for them in the dense forests of Papari Pira poses a significant challenge; they managed to escape by taking advantage of the darkness and the thick forest cover. Upon learning of the suspects’ escape, local police, Army personnel, and paramilitary forces launched a joint operation and cordoned off the area. Sniffer dogs and drones are also being utilised in the search.
Dung Found Inside the Vehicle
A twist in the case emerged when dung was discovered on the floor inside the vehicle during the search; it was emitting a strong odour. The rear seat had been completely removed. According to police sources, cattle smugglers on NH-44 frequently employ such tactics, often attempting to break through checkpoints and flee under the cover of darkness. Strict action is consistently taken against cattle smugglers, and legal proceedings will be initiated against these suspects once they are apprehended.
