The political debate surrounding the Special Intensive Revision of the Voter List (SIR) has intensified. Meanwhile, news is emerging that the Election Commission has issued a notice to Rajya Sabha MP and senior lawyer Kapil Sibal. Following the notice, Sibal has raised serious questions about Gyanesh Kumar and the Election Commission’s procedures. Sibal himself stated that he received a notice regarding voter list verification. Expressing his displeasure, he questioned why he was issued a notice when he possessed records related to his Indian citizenship and voter registration.
Sibal stated that he learned about this matter through online records related to the Election Commission. He also stated that his name and previous records are already included in the voter list. Despite all the records being available, the Election Commission is surprised that questions are being raised about his record and that he has been served with a notice. In this context, he questioned and expressed his displeasure, “Am I not an Indian citizen?”

Under SIR, voter information on the electoral roll is being matched with previous electoral records. The stated purpose of this process is to update the electoral roll and ensure the records of eligible voters. Voters whose information directly does not match the previous records may be asked for relevant documents or additional information. However, when Kapil Sibal was issued a notice, he stated that he has all the records and documents, so what basis was the notice issued to him? He also stated that the reason for the notice was not clearly stated in the notice.
