Gangster Sandeep alias Kala Jatheri, lodged in Delhi’s Tihar Jail, was granted custody parole on Sunday to attend a family function. He reached his ancestral village Jatheri in Sonipat, where the naming ceremony and religious ceremonies of his twin daughters were to be organised. According to reports, he was brought to the village under tight police security for a few hours.

As soon as Kala Jatheri reached the village, a large number of people gathered outside his house. After getting down from the police vehicle, he waved to the people present there and was then taken inside the house amid a security cordon. Drums and traditional bands were also played during his welcome.

Security arrangements remained very tight throughout the programme. Delhi and Sonipat police personnel were deployed and a security cordon was put up around his house. According to reports, people entering the house were also checked.

Kala Jatheri was granted custody parole at the family’s request to attend the naming ceremony of his twin daughters. The initial permission was for seven hours, which was later reduced to five hours. He reached the village around 11 am and was taken back to Tihar Jail by evening.

His movements were monitored by the police during parole. According to the report, Delhi Police had also contacted Sonipat Police to ensure security arrangements. A multi-layered security cordon was put in place around his house.

Kala Jatheri has previously been granted custody parole on family occasions. He was also granted limited parole to attend his wedding in 2024.

Welcomed with drums and band

When Kala Jatheri arrived in the village, a crowd gathered outside his house. As the police vehicle arrived, drums and traditional bands played, causing a brief commotion in the village.

After getting out of the vehicle, Kala Jatheri waved towards the people standing outside. After this, the policemen took him inside the house under security cover.

However, the entire program took place under strict surveillance. There was police presence around the house and for security reasons, his meetings and movements were kept under prescribed rules.

Twin daughters were born through IVF.

Kala Jatheri’s wife, Anuradha Chaudhary, gave birth to twin daughters. According to reports, both daughters were born through IVF procedure. The family organised the naming ceremony and religious rituals on this family occasion.

According to Anuradha Chaudhary, the family wanted Jatheri to meet his daughters and be present at their naming ceremony. On this basis, permission was sought for custody parole.

However, according to later reports, the court’s permission was limited to meeting the family only. Jatheri was not allowed to participate in the formal havan or naming ceremony. The family can further seek separate permission for this.

100 police personnel were deployed, with three levels of security in place.

Security was strengthened before Jatheri arrived in the village. According to Hindustan Times report, around 100 policemen were deployed, including Delhi Police and Haryana Police personnel.

A three-tier security cordon was put in place around his house. The room where Kala Jatheri was to meet his wife and daughters was first completely evacuated and then inspected. Security checks were also conducted on people entering the house.

After the completion of the parole period, the police took Kala Jatheri back to Tihar Jail. Maintaining security arrangements during this period was the main responsibility of the officials.

Kala Jatheri has multiple criminal cases against him.

According to police records, Kala Jatheri has multiple criminal cases registered against him in Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, and Rajasthan. These include cases involving serious charges like murder, attempt to murder, extortion and kidnapping.

He was arrested on July 30, 2021, from Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh. Before his arrest, a total reward of Rs 7 lakh was announced by various police agencies for information about him.

Despite these cases, he was allowed to meet his family under limited custody parole granted by the court. This permission was for a fixed period and with security conditions.

Jatheri returned to Tihar Jail after meeting his family.

The incident became the subject of discussion after videos and photographs of Jatheri’s arrival in the village and his welcome surfaced. The police kept the entire event under security cover as he was welcomed with drums and band.

According to reports, Jatheri got a chance to meet his wife and twin daughters. However, his participation in formal religious ceremonies was not within the scope of the court’s permission.

After the completion of the custody parole period, he was taken back to Tihar Jail. Family events, court permission and tight security arrangements were the three major aspects of the entire incident.
