Mayor Parvesh Wahi visited Wards 51 and 53 as part of the cleanliness drive.
Mayor Parvesh Wahi inspected Wards 51 and 53 in the North-West Zone as part of the ongoing campaign to strengthen sanitation in Delhi. During this, he took stock of the cleanliness system, garbage disposal and ongoing development works in different areas.
During the inspection, the Mayor directed the officials to improve the waste disposal system at the ground level and ensure timely cleaning of public places. He made it clear that any kind of negligence in the cleanliness system will not be tolerated.
On this occasion, MCD Works Committee Vice President and Ward 53 Councillor Dharamveer Sharma, North-West Zone Deputy Commissioner Anshul Sirohi along with senior officers and employees of the corporation were present.
Inspection of the compactor under construction near Safeda Wala Park
Mayor Pravesh Vahi also inspected the garbage compactor being built near Safeda Wala Park in Ward 51. He inquired about the progress of the construction work and directed officials to complete it as soon as possible.
MCD plans to install compactor machines at sensitive places where garbage accumulates i.e. ‘Garbage Vulnerable Points’. Its objective is to streamline waste disposal and reduce the problem of open garbage accumulation.
The Mayor said that it is important that facilities are ready at such places on time, so that the waste management system can be strengthened at the local level and people can get a clean public environment.
Expressed displeasure over garbage heaps near the Kali Mata Temple
During an inspection, the Mayor expressed displeasure over the garbage heaps near the Kali Mata Temple on the Outer Ring Road. He directed strict action against the concerned officer and heavy fine on the responsible concessionaire.
The Mayor appealed to pay special attention to the cleanliness arrangements after events like Bhandara in temples. He said that if needed, the organisers can take help from MCD officials for cleaning.
During this, he asked the officials to ensure regular cleaning of public places and timely garbage collection. The main focus of the inspection was to strengthen the cleanliness system at the ward level.
Development work and encroachments in Prashant Vihar were also reviewed.
During the inspection, the Mayor also visited Blocks E and F of Prashant Vihar. Here he saw the status of ongoing development works and took information from the officials regarding the cleanliness system of the area.
He also gave instructions to remove encroachments on the roads. The mayor told officials that regular monitoring was needed to keep roads and public places in order.
Expressing dissatisfaction over the cleanliness system in Prashant Vihar, he gave instructions for immediate improvement. He asked the officials to work continuously at the ward level and focus on solving local problems.
Inspection of compactor in Rohini Sector 3
Mayor Pravesh Wahi also inspected another compactor under construction in Rohini Sector 3. He directed officials to get it operational as soon as possible.
The MCD believes that installing compactors at waste-sensitive locations will streamline the waste disposal process and help control the problem of garbage accumulation in open spaces.
The Mayor directed the officials not to limit themselves to just installing the machines but also to ensure effective arrangements for their operation and regular disposal of waste.
Appeal for waste segregation at home
The Mayor appealed to Delhi residents to segregate waste into different categories at home. He says that segregation of waste at source makes the process of collection and disposal easier for the MCD.
He also appealed to the people to cooperate in keeping public places clean. According to the Mayor, only the action of the corporation is not enough to keep Delhi clean, but the participation of citizens is also necessary.
He said that the cleanliness system of the city can be further improved through continuous monitoring at the ward level, timely garbage collection and citizen cooperation.
MCD takes a strict stance on sanitation.
During the inspection of wards 51 and 53, the Mayor gave clear instructions to officials that there should be no negligence at any level in Delhi‘s sanitation system. Emphasis was laid on giving priority to compactor facilities and regular cleaning at garbage sensitive locations.
Instructions were also given to fix responsibility if heaps of garbage and lack of cleanliness were found during the inspection. This indicates that the MCD is trying to tighten the monitoring of sanitation system at the ward level.
Now it remains to be seen how much improvement takes place in the cleanliness system in the concerned areas after these instructions. Regular waste disposal along with construction and operation of compactors and citizen participation will play a vital role in the success of this campaign.
