New Delhi: The Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections are fast approaching. The entire country keeps a close watch on this election, as the adage goes: “He who holds UP holds the nation.” The assembly elections are scheduled for February-March 2027, with the Model Code of Conduct likely to come into force in January. The BJP, SP, Congress, and BSP are all working tirelessly to build momentum for the polls.
UP CM Yogi Adityanath and SP chief (and former CM) Akhilesh Yadav are engaged in a fierce war of words. Amidst this, CM Yogi Adityanath launched another verbal attack on Akhilesh Yadav and his uncle, Shivpal Yadav, on Friday. Reminding the public of the SP’s tenure, he stated that the people of the state had suffered greatly due to nepotism.
CM Yogi Terms SP Rule a ‘Mockery’
On Friday, CM Yogi Adityanath visited Ambedkar Nagar in the Ayodhya division and addressed a public meeting. Reminding the public of the SP government’s past tenure, he alleged that anarchy and nepotism were rampant in the state during that period. CM Yogi Adityanath also raised serious questions regarding the style of governance under the SP regime.
He remarked that the future of the youth was treated frivolously during that time. He noted that whenever job opportunities arose for the youth, they were not awarded based on merit. The CM alleged that the ‘uncle-nephew duo’ would set out to plunder; they effectively robbed the youth of their rights in the name of nepotism.
Targeting SP over Law and Order
Yogi Adityanath did not stop there; he also held the SP responsible for the state of law and order in UP. He stated that the atmosphere in the state had completely deteriorated back then. Riots and curfews were commonplace in major cities like Saharanpur, Aligarh, Hapur, Etah, Mathura, and Lucknow. He further added that these riots had so tarnished Uttar Pradesh’s image that people from other states viewed the youth of UP with suspicion.
Police stations and administrative offices (tehsils) were often controlled by SP goons. Referring to the atmosphere of fear that prevailed among the public during that era, the CM remarked that a perception had taken root in the minds of common people: any vehicle bearing the SP flag was assumed to be carrying a goon. He further stated that SP leaders and their associates openly engaged in illegal extortion, causing great distress to the general public.
Criticism of SP’s Uproar in the House
CM Yogi noted that, on one hand, the state government had introduced a supplementary budget of ₹59,000 crore for development works; yet, the SP did not allow the House to function. Through their uproar and disorderly conduct, they prevented any discussion on the issues at hand.
CM Yogi Adityanath affirmed that the BJP respects democratic processes and rules. The ₹59,000 crore supplementary budget brought by the government contained several significant schemes aimed at the welfare of the youth, farmers, women, and the poor.
