New Delhi: An intense conflict continues between the US and Iran, causing losses for both nations. Tensions between the two have created an atmosphere of instability across the Middle East. Iran frequently targets nations that host US airbases. While attempts have been made to find a path to peace, they have so far proven unsuccessful. Although the US and Iran have sat at the negotiating table multiple times, the results have been nil. Now, however, steps toward peace appear to be emerging once again.
US President Donald Trump has put forward specific demands to Tehran. He has demanded compensation from Iran for those who lost their lives during the five-month-long conflict. Iran had previously made similar demands of the US; now, Trump has echoed that call.
Donald Trump Makes a Significant Statement
In a social media post, US President Donald Trump made an interesting remark, describing Iran’s proposal as “very interesting.” He announced that he, too, seeks compensation from Tehran. Trump stated that the demand for compensation covering those killed or seriously injured by roadside bombs and in various conflicts was being made via the post; he noted that such actions are what Iran is known for.
President Trump also referenced attacks involving Iranian military commander General Qasem Soleimani. He demanded compensation for the families of those killed in the USS Cole attack, as well as for the thousands who lost their lives in the fighting.
Trump Holds Iran Responsible for the Conflict
The US has demanded compensation from Iran for the families of those killed over the past five months. According to the President, approximately 52,000 people have died in the conflict between the two nations so far. Trump has also linked this demand to future negotiations. During this time, he stated that he had instructed his representatives to raise the issue of compensation in any future negotiations firmly. Donald Trump noted that Iran had not even mentioned compensation during previous talks. He held Iran responsible for the conflict that has been ongoing for five months.
Attacks from Both Sides
It is worth noting that both the US and Iran are continuing to attack each other. Even as efforts for peace are being pursued at the negotiating table, the conflict shows no signs of abating. The US military is determined to keep the Strait of Hormuz open at all costs, whereas Iran seeks to close it and disrupt the import-export chain. It remains to be seen under what terms peace might be established between the two nations; however, at present, there appear to be no such prospects whatsoever.
