New Delhi: Today marks the first Monday of the holy month of Sawan; consequently, crowds of devotees have been visible at Shiva temples since early morning. Devotees are arriving at Shiva temples carrying holy water collected from Haridwar and other ghats along the Ganges. The administration appears well-prepared to facilitate the journey of Shiva devotees. Police have implemented stringent arrangements across various locations to ensure devotees face no inconvenience. In this regard, the Delhi Traffic Police have also made extensive arrangements due to the Kanwar Yatra.
Personnel deployment on the roads has been increased to ensure Kanwariyas face no difficulties. A heavy influx of devotees is expected between August 9 and August 11 during the month of Sawan. Due to this, several routes will be closed, and traffic diversions will be implemented on those days.
If you plan to travel, it is advisable to first review the Delhi Traffic Police’s diversion guidelines to avoid any inconvenience. However, you will be able to reach your destination using alternative routes instead of the restricted ones.
Route Diversions for UP and Uttarakhand
An advisory issued by the Delhi Traffic Police states that heavy goods vehicles bound for UP and Uttarakhand will not be permitted to travel via Ring Road towards Shastri Park, Khajuri, and Bhajanpura. Additionally, the Delhi Police stated that goods vehicles travelling from Mukarba Chowk towards Wazirabad will not be allowed to use the Signature Bridge or the old Wazirabad Bridge.
These vehicles will be diverted directly towards Chandni Ram Akhada. Furthermore, heavy vehicles approaching Timarpur will not be permitted to use the Wazirabad Flyover or the Signature Bridge; instead, they will be directed straight towards Chandni Ram Akhada.
Traffic Restrictions on Specific Routes
According to the Delhi Traffic Police, goods vehicles approaching Yudhishthir Setu will not be permitted to use the Yudhishthir Bridge. They will be diverted towards the Ring Road via the Chandni Ram Akhara Loop, Monastery Loop, and the western end of Yudhishthir Setu.
Roads to use
All heavy goods vehicles are advised to use NH-9 or the Eastern Peripheral Expressway to reach their destinations. Meanwhile, the public is advised to use public transport to avoid traffic congestion. Parking vehicles in ‘No Parking’ zones along the roadside may attract a fine. Citizens are urged to immediately inform the police if they spot any suspicious object.
Meanwhile, official sources have indicated that 1,828 personnel will be deployed in Delhi to ensure security during the Kanwar Yatra. These personnel will be stationed along various routes. To facilitate the Kanwariyas, 308 Kanwar camps have also been set up; these are located along different routes, with police forces deployed in their vicinity.
