Delhi Protest

New Delhi: The Jantar Mantar grounds in the capital are once again poised to become a hub of agitation. Delhi Police has denied permission for an anti-reservation protest proposed for August 22 at Jantar Mantar. Despite this, appeals are being made on social media for people to gather at the site, and some individuals have already begun arriving in the area.

Consequently, the police have heightened their vigilance. Having learned from the deteriorating situation during the CJP protest, Delhi Police is determined to avoid any lapses this time. Barricading in the area has been increased, and additional security forces have been deployed.

Meanwhile, Delhi Police has clarified that no permission has been granted for this protest. In light of the activity, Section 163 of the BNSS has also been imposed in the area.

Increased Vigilance Around Jantar Mantar

According to the Delhi Police, the number of police personnel in the vicinity of Jantar Mantar has been increased. Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), formerly known as Section 144 of the CrPC, has been invoked. A close watch is being kept on the people gathering there. This section empowers authorities to prohibit protests, marches, processions, or the assembly of five or more people. If five or more people gather near Jantar Mantar now, the police may question them.

Delhi Police Denies Permission for Protest

Delhi Police had clarified on Thursday that no permission was granted for any protest at Jantar Mantar on August 21 regarding changes to the reservation system. According to the police, claims circulating in social media videos and posts suggesting that permission had been granted are false and misleading.

Strict Action Against Rumour-Mongers

Delhi Police is keeping a close watch on the unauthorised protest. The police have appealed to the public not to believe any rumours regarding permission for the protest. They have also advised against sharing unverified or irresponsible posts on social media. Furthermore, the Delhi Police have warned that legal action could be taken against those spreading false or fake information.

Stir Caused by Social Media Posts

It is worth noting that rumblings about a protest against the reservation system had begun some time ago. A poster announcing a “peaceful protest” at Jantar Mantar had been circulated by a social media page, calling on people to gather there on August 21.

Additionally, an Instagram page named “Reservation Hatao Andolan” had also called for a demonstration against the reservation system. Following these appeals on social media, strict security arrangements were put in place, and the police are now maintaining a close watch across the area.
