Weather Alert

New Delhi: Clouds have blanketed various parts of North India since morning, resulting in rainfall across several areas. Rain is occurring in both the plains and hilly regions of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh, causing temperatures to drop steadily. In many areas, thunderstorms accompanied by heavy rain have brought daily life to a standstill.

Additionally, rainfall is being reported in parts of Western Uttar Pradesh and Haryana amidst shifting cloud cover. The downpour has significantly raised water levels in rivers, drains, and ponds. There appears to be no immediate respite from the monsoon rains; the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings for heavy rainfall across several states. You can find detailed weather forecasts for specific regions below.

Likelihood of Heavy Rain in North India

The Meteorological Department has predicted heavy rainfall across various regions of the country. According to the IMD, heavy rain is expected in Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Himachal Pradesh. Heavy rainfall is also forecast for Uttarakhand. These conditions are likely to persist until Monday, with spells of heavy rain expected to continue in several parts of Uttarakhand.

Rain Forecast for Delhi, Haryana, and Punjab

According to the IMD, rain is expected in Delhi and its surrounding areas. While the weather is likely to remain generally normal today in Haryana, Chandigarh, Punjab, and Delhi, heavy rainfall is predicted for these regions on Saturday. A similar weather pattern is expected in the NCR areas adjacent to Delhi.

Heavy Rain in Madhya Pradesh

The Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rainfall in northeastern Madhya Pradesh (part of Central India) and widespread rain in western Madhya Pradesh. Warnings for widespread rainfall have also been issued for Chhattisgarh and eastern Madhya Pradesh. Rain is also expected in these regions as well as in parts of Vidarbha.

Rain Forecast for Eastern Regions

The IMD has predicted heavy rainfall in the country’s eastern regions, specifically the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Jharkhand, Bihar, and the coastal state of Odisha. Heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is likely at several locations in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Wind speeds in the area are expected to increase from 40–50 km/h to 60 km/h.

Rain Alert for Northeastern States

According to the Meteorological Department, heavy rainfall is also expected in Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, and Manipur through August 22. Heavy downpours are also anticipated in Mizoram and Tripura. People have been urged to exercise caution in view of the possibility of lightning strikes.
