New Delhi: The student protest held under the banner of the ‘Cockroach Janata Party’ (CJP) continues to be a topic of discussion. Opposition parties are persistently raising the issue of the lathi-charge carried out by the Delhi Police against the protesters during the CJP movement. Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, remains furious with the central government and the Delhi Police over this matter.
On Friday, Rahul Gandhi visited the police station to demand the registration of an FIR regarding the use of pellet guns during the protest. When the police failed to take immediate action, he sat on a dharna (sit-in protest) right outside the station, causing panic among the administration. The Congress leader is seeking an update on the status of the investigation into the incident. Notably, Rahul Gandhi was accompanied by Sahil Lohbach, a victim of the pellet gun firing.

Rahul Gandhi Accuses the Police
Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, accused the government of failing to register an FIR so far. He has currently sat in protest outside the police station. A crowd of media personnel and security staff has gathered at the scene, and senior Congress leaders are also present. Reports indicate that the police have accepted the complaint.
The police state that the Crime Branch is actively investigating the matter. Rahul Gandhi met with Delhi Police Joint CP Nupur Prasad, who had assumed charge only a day or two prior. After the meeting, Rahul Gandhi stepped out and immediately sat down outside; a chair was arranged for him, and he commenced his sit-in protest.
Several senior leaders are accompanying him. Rahul Gandhi had arrived with various complaints and demanded action on them, but the police did not make an immediate decision. This is likely why he sat on the protest immediately upon stepping out.
Congress Championing Students’ Issues
Rahul Gandhi has staged a sit-in protest. Having previously protested outside PM Narendra Modi’s residence, he is now sitting outside the Delhi Police headquarters. In a sense, the Congress party is fighting the students’ battle everywhere from Parliament to the streets. The Congress is attempting to build pressure on the Delhi Police and Amit Shah through street-level protests.

According to Delhi Police sources, a complaint was lodged with the force regarding an incident involving a pellet gun during the students’ protest; the complaint was filed by the victim. Sachin Sharma, the DCP of New Delhi, was personally overseeing the proceedings at the police station. The complaint will be forwarded to the Crime Branch, which is investigating all cases registered on July 20.
