Monsoon Alert

New Delhi: Monsoon rains have brought daily life to a standstill across various regions, creating a dire situation. People are facing significant hardships as rivers, ponds, and drains overflow. In Assam, floods have wreaked such havoc that lives were put at risk, and conditions remain critical. Social organisations and the government are providing rations and other essential facilities to displaced people.

South India is also experiencing heavy rainfall. Late-night rains in parts of Kerala, Karnataka, and Maharashtra caused temperatures to drop, offering relief from the heat. However, there is no immediate respite from the rain; a heavy rainfall warning has been issued for 12 states over the next five hours.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for torrential rain across 12 states in the coming hours. Heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is expected in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Delhi, Rajasthan, and Uttarakhand. Additionally, heavy rainfall is likely in Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, and Jharkhand. An alert for intense rainfall has been issued for several districts in West Bengal. Strong winds are also expected to compound difficulties for residents during this period.

According to the IMD, an alert for heavy downpours has been issued for Azamgarh, Deoria, Sonbhadra, Chandauli, Mau, Varanasi, Prayagraj, and Ayodhya. A warning has been issued for strong winds reaching speeds of 70 to 75 km/h in the area.
