New Delhi: Political temperatures in Assam soared after the police detained CJP activists and leaders. A proposed volunteers’ meeting of the ‘Cockroach Janata Party’ (CJP) was halted before it could even begin on Sunday. Police in Guwahati detained party leaders and volunteers, including CJP Co-convenor Ashutosh Ranka. Following the detention, CJP founder Abhijit Dipke lashed out at the Assam Police, accusing them of mistreating his party’s leaders. He also issued a warning to the Assam Police via the social media platform X.
CJP Convenor levels allegations against Assam Police
After the detention of CJP leaders, party founder Abhijit Dipke strongly criticised the Assam Police. He alleged that the police took Ashutosh Ranka and his team to an undisclosed location. Posting on X, Dipke stated that the CJP leaders were detained while on their way to a small volunteers’ meeting.
The CJP had planned to hold its first regional volunteers’ meeting in Guwahati, with several leaders and volunteers expected to attend. According to the organisation, the Assam Police blocked access to the venue and stopped people who were arriving to participate in the meeting.

Ashutosh Ranka, who was detained, had been in Assam since Saturday and was scheduled to address the meeting. Prior to this, he had stated that the CJP intended to meet families affected by the electoral roll revision and visit government schools to assess their condition.
In an earlier post from Assam, Ranka had alleged that officials were trying to prevent the CJP from raising questions regarding state schools, land issues, and other matters. They had also raised questions regarding the revision of electoral rolls in Assam, alleging that the process could expose irregularities in the state elections.
Lawyers denied access to detained activist.
The CJ levelled serious allegations against the Assam government and the police. The organisation stated that tear gas equipment had been deployed near the event venue and that its lawyers were denied permission to meet the detained activists.
Furthermore, the organisation stated that it could not immediately confirm how many volunteers had been detained or where they were being held. These detentions occurred at a time when the CJP was scaling up its activities in Assam.
CJP Announces Nationwide Movement
Following questions raised regarding the transparency of the Election Commission of India, the Cockroach Janata Party is now set to launch a protest campaign. Issuing a warning to the Election Commission and the government, the CJP stated that if Gyanesh Kumar does not resign from his post within 48 hours, a massive movement will be launched starting October 2, 2026.
