Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar remains in the news constantly. New news stories about him are constantly emerging. The Election Commission, headed by the Chief Election Commissioner, has made a major change to Form 6, the online voter registration form. In states and union territories where the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process of electoral rolls has been completed, the additional declaration related to SIR has been removed from the online Form 6. This decision was made by the Election Commission, and Abhijeet Dipke, founder of the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), has responded. Abhijeet appeared pleased with the decision.

Dipke responded and welcomed the Election Commission’s decision. He shared his reaction on social media and welcomed the Election Commission’s decision.

What was the change in Form 6?

Form 6 is a form used by eligible citizens to enroll their names in the voter list. Recently, an additional declaration related to the SIR was added to the online Form 6. This required additional information related to both new and previous voter lists. However, it has now been decided that applicants in states and union territories where the SIR has been completed will no longer be required to submit this additional declaration.

Deepke’s reaction to the decision

Following the Commission’s move, Abhijeet Deepak of the CJP reacted to the decision via social media. He welcomed the decision and also questioned why the additional information was added in the first place if it was to be removed later.

Reports of differences within the Commission

This entire issue and controversy began when some media reports surfaced regarding the functioning of the Election Commission. These reports surfaced in an Indian Express report in which Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi raised objections to certain decisions and procedures in previous months. He stated that the decisions were not made as per his wishes and were solely made by Gyaneshwar Kumar. After this, the matter escalated. This included changes related to the online Form-6.

Opposition Protest

Since this report surfaced, the opposition has been continuously protesting and demanding the resignation and action against Gyanesh Kumar. Rahul Gandhi has even called for Gyanesh Kumar to resign and become a government witness. Mamata Banerjee, Uddhav Thackeray, Akhilesh Yadav, and others are also demanding Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation.
