New Delhi: The national song ‘Vande Mataram’ has now fully entered the political arena in India, with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress at loggerheads over the issue. A resolution regarding ‘Vande Mataram’ passed during the Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting on Wednesday has become a subject of political contention. Senior BJP leaders are targeting the Congress over this matter.
In this context, Union Home Minister Amit Shah lashed out at the Congress, stating that the party had taken an anti-national decision and engaged in the politics of appeasement. He asserted that the people of the country are united on this issue. He further alleged that in 1937, the Congress had laid the foundation for the country’s partition, which eventually led to the creation of Pakistan—by splitting ‘Vande Mataram’ into two parts in a bid to appease the Muslim community.

Congress Insulted Lakhs of Martyrs: Amit Shah
On Thursday, Home Minister Amit Shah stated that the Congress had also insulted the lakhs of martyrs who had gone to the gallows while chanting ‘Vande Mataram’. He criticised the party for adhering to its 1937 resolution while disregarding an Act of Parliament.
He remarked that under Rahul Gandhi’s leadership, the Congress party is once again promoting the politics of appeasement. He appealed to the public, noting that the country had made a mistake in the past and suffered grave consequences; he urged them to unite against this move and raise their voices against the Congress’s decision.
Mandatory Singing of Six Stanzas
During the Monsoon Session, the Central Government passed the ‘Vande Mataram’ Bill in Parliament following an extensive debate. The bill made it mandatory to sing six stanzas of ‘Vande Mataram’. The Congress argues that, before independence, the nation’s great leaders had accepted the singing of just two stanzas. The party clarified that there is no ambiguity regarding ‘Vande Mataram’ and that its stance is clear; the decision regarding the two stanzas was taken by Gandhi, Nehru, and Patel in the 1937 resolution.
Shivraj Singh Chouhan Accuses Congress
Former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister and current Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan lashed out at the Congress party on Thursday over its stance on Vande Mataram. He stated that Vande Mataram is the pride of India; refusing to sing the full version is not merely an insult to the song, but an insult to Mother India.
He remarked that the Congress party’s “Muslim League-like” mindset has not changed. He added that in 1937, under pressure from the Muslim League, the Congress had decided against singing the full Vande Mataram. Even today, the Congress remains cut off from India’s culture, values, traditions, and roots.

Giriraj Singh: Kharge is Leading the Muslim League
Giriraj Singh stated that Mallikarjun Kharge is currently leading the Muslim League. He remarked that the “wolf” which had been in hiding has now emerged; an attempt had been made to conceal this on August 15th. He asserted that insulting Vande Mataram is an insult to India and that the country is governed by the Constitution.
He further noted that Sonia Gandhi did not acquire citizenship until 15 years after her marriage, questioning what love she could have for the country. He added that a case regarding dual citizenship is still pending against Rahul Gandhi, so what would he understand about these matters? He accused these people of wanting to turn the country into a Muslim nation.
