New Delhi: The monsoon is at its peak across the country, stretching from Jammu & Kashmir to Kanyakumari, bringing a spell of continuous, heavy rainfall. This rain has led to a drop in temperatures. Heavy rainfall in North India has caused river water levels to rise above the danger mark, creating flood-like conditions in several districts.
Water levels in rivers such as the Ganga, Ramganga, and Kosi have risen significantly. Heavy rains have also made life difficult for residents in the northeastern states. Meanwhile, torrential downpours have brought life to a standstill across most parts of South India. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings for heavy rainfall in various regions of the country.

Heavy Rain Warning for 15 States
According to the Meteorological Department, alerts for heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning have been issued for 15 states. Such alerts are in place for various areas across Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, and Uttarakhand. Additionally, heavy rainfall is expected in Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana, and Rajasthan.
The IMD has also issued warnings for heavy rain and strong storms in Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, West Bengal, and Assam. There is also a likelihood of lightning strikes in several locations across the states of Eastern India. Wind speeds are expected to reach 60 to 70 km/h in most of these areas.
Weather Forecast for Delhi
The Meteorological Department has predicted heavy rainfall in various parts of Delhi. Wind speeds in the capital are expected to range between 60 and 70 km/h. For August 20, the forecast indicates a maximum temperature of 33°C and a minimum of 28°C.
Likelihood of Heavy Rain in Uttar Pradesh
According to the IMD, heavy rainfall is expected in Noida, Meerut, Mathura, Muzaffarnagar, Agra, Chitrakoot, and Banda. The Meteorological Department has issued an alert for heavy rainfall in Sonbhadra, Mirzapur, Kanpur, Budaun, Sitapur, Barabanki, Jalaun, Hamirpur, Mahoba, and Jhansi.
Additionally, the department has forecast intense rainfall for several districts, including Lalitpur, Gorakhpur, and Prayagraj. Wind speeds are expected to reach 60 to 70 kilometres per hour. In Lucknow, the maximum temperature is likely to be 33°C, with a minimum of 28°C.

Weather outlook for Bihar
The Meteorological Department has predicted heavy rainfall across most parts of Bihar. Heavy rain is expected in Patna, Siwan, Saran, Bhojpur, Muzaffarpur, Samastipur, and Darbhanga. Heavy rainfall is also likely in Madhubani, Purnia, Katihar, Madhepura, Kishanganj, Begusarai, and Khagaria. Furthermore, the department has issued a heavy rain warning for Bhagalpur, Munger, Saharsa, and Supaul. Wind speeds are expected to range between 50 and 60 kilometres per hour.
