New Delhi: Personnel from the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) have achieved a significant success at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport by intercepting cash worth over ₹68 lakh. The cash was found in the possession of just two passengers, and an investigation into the matter has been initiated. The two passengers were intercepted at the airport on August 20.
They have since been handed over to Income Tax Department officials for further questioning. Both passengers were intending to travel to Guwahati and Agartala with the cash, but CISF personnel acted promptly to intercept them. Investigations are underway to determine the intended purpose of the cash and its final destination.

Officials Share Key Details
CISF personnel gathered this information based on behavioural observation and a review of CCTV footage at the airport. Details were shared via a post on the social media platform ‘X’, confirming that the cash was found with passengers bound for Guwahati and Agartala. Initial suspicion arose due to the behaviour of one passenger during a random X-BIS (X-ray Baggage Inspection System) check.
Officials subsequently identified the second passenger through CCTV footage. A search of their luggage led to the recovery of ₹68.53 lakh in cash. The seized cash, luggage, and travel documents have been handed over to Income Tax officials. This incident underscores the rigorous security measures in place at one of India’s busiest airports.
How the Cash Was Detected
According to officials, CISF personnel became suspicious of a particular passenger and flagged him for a detailed check. A review of CCTV footage helped identify a second passenger travelling with him. Both passengers were travelling to Guwahati, from where they intended to proceed to Agartala. However, the vigilant security measures at Indira Gandhi International Airport thwarted their plans.

Additionally, during a thorough inspection of their luggage, CIS.F personnel seized cash amounting to ₹68.53 lakh. Following the discovery of the cash, the passengers were handed over to Income Tax officials for further action. The seized cash, luggage, and relevant travel documents were also transferred to the department.
Major Success for CISF
CISF personnel stationed at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi Airport remain constantly vigilant in monitoring and screening passengers. The recovery of this cash is being hailed as a significant success for the force. An investigation is now awaited to determine the source of the cash and its intended destination. The Income Tax Department is expected to conduct questioning and potentially make major revelations regarding the matter—a topic that is currently generating considerable buzz.
