New Delhi: Assembly elections are scheduled to be held early next year in Uttar Pradesh, the country’s largest state. While elections will take place simultaneously across five states, all eyes are fixed on the politics of UP. The Congress party has also intensified its preparations for these elections. A meeting involving Congress MPs and other leaders from UP was held recently, attended by both Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi.
During the meeting, Congress MPs from UP advocated for strengthening the alliance with the Samajwadi Party (SP) and recommended an early resolution on seat-sharing. Rahul Gandhi has been actively engaging with Gen-Z to strengthen the party; he aims to bolster the organisation at the grassroots level by connecting with this demographic. Consequently, it is now believed that the details regarding seat-sharing between the Congress and the SP for the UP elections will soon become clear.
Congress’s Gen-G plan
Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha and MP from Rae Bareli, Rahul Gandhi, will be on a visit to Prayagraj on Saturday. Here he will interact with the youth in the Students’ Echo program. A large number of students of Gen-G generation are expected to participate in this program. Earlier, Rahul Gandhi had also organised such programs in Kota of Rajasthan and Dehradun, the capital of Uttarakhand.
According to the party, Rahul Gandhi is laying a lot of emphasis on students’ issues these days. With this step, Congress’s stronghold among Gen-Z is also being claimed. A large number of students had protested against the NEET exam leak at Jantar Mantar in the capital Delhi.
Students from various cities, towns and villages had come to participate in this movement. In many districts, including Prayagraj and Lucknow, youth demonstrated and surrounded the central government. In such a situation, the Congress Party is focusing on connecting the youth for the UP Assembly elections 2027. This is the new class of voters, who seem to be quite dissatisfied with the education system of the country.
Deliberations on seat-sharing in Uttar Pradesh to intensify
Meanwhile, preparations regarding seat-sharing have begun ahead of the electoral battle in Uttar Pradesh. The Congress aims to finalise seat allocation and enter the fray as soon as possible. UP Congress leaders have urged the party’s top leadership to clarify the seat-sharing arrangement with the SP, ensuring there is no ambiguity among party workers and leaders.
Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi also held a meeting with all six Lok Sabha MPs and Rajya Sabha MPs from UP to discuss seat allocation. A major decision on this matter is expected by August 20; a surprising decision regarding the seat-sharing arrangement between the SP and the Congress in UP could emerge by that date.
