Weather Alert

New Delhi: Heavy monsoon rains are lashing the country, leading to difficult conditions. In Assam, floods have made life miserable for residents, with water still inundating homes. The death toll from the floods has reached 95 so far. With some people reported missing, the number of fatalities could rise.

Torrential rains in the capital, Delhi, and surrounding areas have brought relief from the scorching heat. These regions have experienced intermittent rainfall over the past three days. Rains have also slowed down the pace of life in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Haryana. There appears to be little chance of respite from the rain across many parts of the country soon; the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued heavy rainfall warnings for 17 states.

Heavy Rainfall Warnings for These States

According to the Meteorological Department, warnings for heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning have been issued for Uttarakhand, Konkan, and Goa. The IMD forecasts heavy rainfall in Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Bihar.

Additionally, heavy rain is expected in West Bengal, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, and Mizoram. Forecasts also indicate heavy rainfall for Tripura, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Kerala, and Mahe. Heavy rain is likely in Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Meanwhile, alerts for light to moderate rainfall have been issued for Odisha, Jharkhand, Assam, Meghalaya, Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Lakshadweep.

Weather Forecast for Delhi-NCR

According to the Meteorological Department, Delhi-NCR has been witnessing a continuous spell of rain for several days. Heavy rain was recorded in Delhi for about two hours on Wednesday. This rainy spell continued into Thursday, with rainfall observed across the entire NCR, including Delhi and Noida, since the morning. According to the IMD, residents of Delhi are unlikely to get any immediate respite from the rain during the Sawan season. A warning for light to moderate rainfall has now been issued up to August 8; the weather is expected to remain cloudy, accompanied by light to moderate showers.

Orange and Yellow Alerts Issued for UP

The Meteorological Department has issued rainfall warnings for Uttar Pradesh. The IMD has predicted heavy rain in several districts of the state for Thursday, with a forecast of extremely heavy rainfall in five districts. An alert for heavy rain at multiple locations in Eastern UP has been issued for August 6, while a ‘Yellow Alert’ for rain is in place for 20 districts in Western UP. Meanwhile, scattered rainfall is predicted for Friday.
