CJP Protest

New Delhi: The Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) staged a protest at Jantar Mantar in Delhi against the NEET paper leak. Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan had to resign, acceding to the demands of thousands of students who had gathered under the CJP banner. Since then, the CJP has become a major topic of discussion across the country. While the agitation against the NEET paper leak has concluded, speculation is rife regarding the CJP’s next move.

People are asking whether the CJP will join the ranks of parties that contest elections. There is speculation that the CJP might contest the 2029 elections. However, no CJP leader has officially announced plans to contest polls. CJP spokesperson Sourav Das has addressed these questions.

What will the CJP do next?

All eyes are on what stance the Cockroach Janata Party will take next. CJP spokesperson Sourav Das stated that following the youth’s historic victory, they were frequently asked where the movement would go and what direction it would take. He mentioned that they have come to Aurangabad to deliberate on this and formulate a strategy. Discussions will be held here, and a two-day meeting has been scheduled for this purpose.

They will then consider how to take this movement forward at the grassroots level. Sourav Das shared that they are receiving immense support on the ground. “We want to reach out to the people who support us and understand their grievances and hardships,” he said. “We will hold meetings to devise a robust agenda for the youth. Once a final decision is reached after the two-day meeting, we will speak to the media on August 6.”

Will the CJP form a political party?

Cockroach Janata Party spokesperson Sourav Das responded candidly to the question of whether the group would form a political party. He stated that no such thing would happen. The CJP is a movement, not a political party. He emphasised the vital need for a pressure group in the country, noting that there are already numerous political parties in existence.

Approximately 750–800 political parties are operating across the country. It is unfortunate that, despite this, people still face problems. Our aim is not to form a political party; what is needed now is grassroots-level activism and awareness. CJP intends to focus on exactly that.

CJP: Origins in Social Media

It is worth noting that the CJP movement began on social media and has now become a topic of discussion nationwide. CJP has successfully connected with Gen Z, and the country’s youth are now demanding that CJP transform into a political party. However, Saurav Das has stated that while he is listening to all demands and gathering feedback, he believes there is no need for a political party at this juncture.
