New Delhi: Monsoon clouds have become fully active once again, bringing rainfall to various parts of North India. The rain has led to a drop in temperatures, providing people with relief from the scorching heat. Weather conditions also remain severe in South India and the northeastern states.
Late-night rainfall in several parts of Uttar Pradesh caused temperatures to drop, offering residents relief from the sultry, humid heat. Additionally, rain was recorded in various areas of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heavy rainfall warning for the next 48 hours. Monsoon Gains Momentum
According to the IMD, a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal, a weather system over Rajasthan, and a cyclonic circulation over northern West Bengal have revitalised the monsoon. Continuous moisture inflow from the Arabian Sea is causing the clouds to intensify rapidly. Consequently, heavy rainfall warnings have been issued for parts of western, central, and northeastern India over the next two days.
Heavy Rain Warning for 17 States
The Meteorological Department has issued warnings for heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning in Delhi-NCR, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, and Rajasthan. Heavy rainfall is also expected in Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu & Kashmir.
Heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is likely in Gujarat, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, and Arunachal Pradesh. Wind speeds could reach 60 to 80 kmph in these areas. There is also a persistent risk of thunderstorms and lightning strikes.
Worsening Situation Due to Continuous Rain in the Northeast
The situation in the northeastern states has deteriorated significantly due to incessant rainfall. Road connectivity has been severely disrupted in several parts of Nagaland. Relief and rescue agencies have evacuated 180 people to safety with the help of helicopters.
Rain warning for these UP districts
The Meteorological Department has issued a rain warning for 28 districts in the northern region. A rain alert has been issued for Meerut, Ghaziabad, Noida, Aligarh, Baghpat, Hapur, Amroha, Sambhal, Badaun, Kasganj, and Farrukhabad for the next few hours.
Additionally, rainfall is likely in parts of Hardoi, Kannauj, Unnao, Kanpur, Lucknow, Raebareli, Amethi, and Fatehpur. Meanwhile, a rain alert has been issued for Pratapgarh, Kaushambi, Prayagraj, Sant Ravidas Nagar, Jaunpur, Mirzapur, Varanasi, Ghazipur, and Chandauli, where wind speeds could reach 40 to 50 kilometres per hour. People have been advised to exercise caution in view of the possibility of lightning strikes.
