New Delhi: The capital, Delhi, has currently become a hub for student protests. Students remain steadfast at Jantar Mantar, pressing for their demands and refusing to back down. Two rounds of talks have already taken place between the CJP and the government, with a third round scheduled for Saturday.
The central government is willing to agree to all of the CJP’s demands, except for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan—which remains the group’s most critical demand. Protesters have stated that if Pradhan does not resign, they will launch “Parliament March Part-2,” for which planning has already begun. All eyes are now on the meeting scheduled for today between the central government and the CJP.
When will the meeting take place?
Today is a crucial day for the students protesting under the CJP banner. Another meeting between the protesters and the government is scheduled for today; Union Ministers JP Nadda and Jitendra Singh will meet with CJP representatives at 3:30 PM.
The movement’s future strategy is expected to hinge largely on the outcome of this meeting. It appears unlikely that the CJP will call off its agitation unless the government secures Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation.
CJP’s plan for ‘Parliament March Part-2
According to sources, if the CJP fails to resolve the issue with the government, a “Parliament March Part-2” could be announced. Should this happen, a large number of protesting students are expected to descend upon Delhi once again. Political and administrative circles are keeping a close watch on the situation at Jantar Mantar.
In anticipation of any potential developments, the Delhi Police has tightened security arrangements at Jantar Mantar and the surrounding areas. Additional police forces have been deployed to prevent any disorder.
Major decision by the Union Cabinet
The central government has taken concrete steps to curb paper leaks across the country. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has personally announced the establishment of fast-track courts to address this issue. On Friday, the Union Cabinet approved introducing a bill in Parliament to enact a stringent law against paper leaks.
The central government may table this bill in Parliament on Monday. The bill includes provisions for up to 10 years of imprisonment and fines of up to ₹10 crore for cases involving paper leaks. Incidents involving protesters injured during the July 20 demonstration also continue to be a subject of ongoing discussion.
CJP alleged that the Delhi Police had dressed certain individuals in uniforms, yet they lacked nameplates and rank insignia (stars). An investigation must be conducted to determine exactly who these uniformed individuals were.
