New Delhi: The Middle East remains unstable due to ongoing tensions between the US and Iran, leading to a deteriorating situation. Volatile conditions in the Strait of Hormuz have made the passage of ships difficult, causing hardships for crews. Amidst this, the Indian Embassy in Tehran has shared significant information.
It reported that a major attack occurred on Friday against a Mozambique-flagged LPG tanker within Iranian waters. Eighteen Indian crew members were on board the tanker. The Embassy shared this update via X, confirming that all crew members are safe.

The Indian Embassy in Tehran announced via X that all Indian crew members are safe and in contact with embassy officials. The Forward Seamen’s Union of India, a trade union representing Indian maritime workers, also shared details on X. It reported that the vessel, named ‘Disha’, was struck by an unidentified missile near the Strait of Hormuz while en route to the Persian Gulf.
Persistent Disruptions to Shipping
The Strait of Hormuz, located between Iran and Oman, is a critical corridor through which one-fifth of the world’s energy supply passes. Tensions have escalated following the collapse of a fragile truce between Washington and Tehran earlier in July, leading to renewed attacks between the two sides. Consequently, shipping operations along this waterway are facing further disruptions.
Assurance of Crew Safety
According to the Indian Embassy in Tehran, immediate diplomatic steps were taken upon receiving news of the attack on the LPG tanker ‘Disha’ on Friday. A statement issued by the Embassy confirmed that there are a total of 28 Indian crew members on board the vessel. It has been stated that the embassy is in direct contact with the relevant Iranian officials. It is confirmed that all Indian crew members on board the vessel are completely safe. Meanwhile, the embassy has clarified that it is closely monitoring the situation and overseeing necessary security arrangements in coordination with the Iranian authorities.
