New Delhi: Preparations for Dussehra have been underway with great enthusiasm for several days in the national capital, Delhi, and the NCR region. Grounds across the capital and its surrounding areas are now ready for the burning of the effigy of Ravana. As the effigy is set ablaze, it will symbolise the victory of good over evil, accompanied by chants of “Jai Shri Ram. In Delhi, it has also been decided to burn an effigy of a cockroach alongside that of Ravana. The cockroach effigy is ready and will be consigned to the flames together with Ravana.

This year, the effigy of Ravana stands at 221 feet tall, a detail that has become a major topic of discussion on social media. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also expected to attend the event, drawing significant attention. In addition to the effigies of Ravana, Kumbhakarna, and Meghnada, an effigy representing those involved in the trafficking of counterfeit medicines has also been prepared.

PM to attend Dussehra event in East Delhi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the Dussehra celebrations organised by the ‘Shri Ramlila Committee Indraprastha’ at IP Estate in East Delhi. Through his presence, the Prime Minister may emphasise the triumph of truth, the eradication of malice, and the importance of following the ideals of Lord Ram. His address during the event is expected to be highly significant, with a likely focus on key issues concerning the nation, society, and culture. Meanwhile, the grounds are fully prepared with the effigies of Ravana, and large crowds are expected to gather.

Effigy of a cockroach becomes a talking point.

Amidst protests organised by the ‘Cockroach Janta Party,’ a 30-foot-tall effigy of a cockroach is set to be burned during the Dussehra festivities at the Netaji Subhash Place (NSP) ground in Pitampura, Delhi. The ‘Shri Keshav Ramlila Committee’ will burn this effigy alongside those of Ravana, Kumbhakarna, and Meghnada.

President to Set Fire to 221-Foot-Tall Effigy

The ‘Ravan Dahan’ (burning of the effigy of Ravan) event, part of the 15th annual Ramlila organised by the Shri Ramlila Committee in Dwarka Sector-10, promises to be a major spectacle, drawing significant public interest. President Droupadi Murmu will attend the event as the chief guest and will set fire to the 221-foot-tall effigy of Ravan. Extensive preparations are underway to make this occasion truly memorable. The effigy, which stands as tall as a 22-story building, was crafted by 120 artisans over the course of three months.

Ravan Dahan to Take Place at Multiple Locations in Ghaziabad

Meanwhile, in Ghaziabad, a city neighbouring Delhi, effigies of Ravan will also be set ablaze at several locations. At the Ramlila Ground near the city’s Ghantaghar (Clock Tower), a 100-foot-tall ‘high-tech’ effigy of Ravan is set to be burned. Additionally, effigies of Meghnath (95 feet tall) and Kumbhakarna (90 feet tall) will also be consigned to the flames. Much like last year, these effigies have been constructed using high-tech features; they will be designed with moving necks, and flames will appear to emerge from their eyes and mouths.
