CJP Leader Custody

New Delhi: The troubles for leaders of the ‘Cockroach Janata Party’ (CJP) continue to mount. The court has decided to extend the judicial custody of CJP’s Ashutosh Ranka and Sourav Das by two days. The next hearing in this matter is now scheduled for October 21. The Delhi Police had taken both leaders into custody on October 13, 2026, and produced them before the Special Executive Magistrate (SEM) the following day, October 14.

The court had remanded both CJP spokespersons to Tihar Jail for five days of judicial custody. Sourav Das and Ashutosh Ranka had attempted to enter Jantar Mantar, an area declared a ‘prohibited zone,’ without permission and stage a protest there.

CJP Demands Their Release

The CJP has been consistently questioning the detention of Sourav Das and Ashutosh Ranka, and now, the date has been pushed back by another two days. The primary reason for their continued detention was that, at the time of their arrest, the individuals intended to stand as sureties for their bail were not present in court. Subsequently, the legal team presented all necessary bail documentation and the sureties before the Special Executive Magistrate (SEM) to secure their release. For now, the court has extended their judicial custody by two days. Meanwhile, the CJP maintains that Sourav and Ranka had gone there solely to hoist the national flag and raise slogans.

Allegations by the CJP

The Cockroach Janata Party has alleged that the police and the administration are deliberately obstructing the release of their leaders by causing delays in court proceedings. Abhijit Deepke, the founder of the CJP, asserts that the administration has no legal grounds to keep their leaders in jail, which is why they are resorting to such tactics. Ratna Singh, the legal head of CJP, has also alleged that the hearing scheduled for the afternoon was deliberately delayed for several hours by the police and officials.

Leaders sent to five-day judicial custody.

It should be noted that following their arrest, the two CJP leaders, Sourav Das and Ashutosh Rank, were remanded to five days of judicial custody. On Sunday, CJP founder Abhijit Dipke, in a post on the social media platform X, accused the Delhi Police of causing delays. He further asserted that he is not someone who will back down.

The founder of CJP was also taken into custody on October 16, before he could join the ‘Tiranga Yatra’. The Delhi Police has been consistently preventing protesters from reaching Jantar Mantar.
