Whether it is breakfast or a packed lunch for the kids, the constant dilemma is deciding what new dish to prepare for them. To relieve you of this worry, we are sharing a recipe that is not only healthy but also quick to make. You have likely eaten or prepared various types of parathas—such as potato (aloo), cauliflower (gobhi), radish (mooli), mixed vegetable, or omelet parathas. However, in this article, we are introducing a paratha recipe that is easy and quick to prepare, while also being highly beneficial for your and your child’s health. We are talking about the Sooji (semolina) paratha. If you haven’t tried it yet, here is the complete recipe; you can whip it up quickly to pack in your child’s lunchbox or serve it for breakfast. Believe us, once you make it, you will want to prepare it again and again because it is incredibly delicious. Besides being healthy, this paratha turns out wonderfully crispy and crunchy. Much like Upma, the inside remains soft while the outside is crisp. Let’s look at the step-by-step method to make it.
Ingredients required for Sooji Paratha
Sooji (Semolina): 1 cup
Wheat flour: ½ cup
Salt: To taste
Green chilies: Chopped (as per preference)
Coriander leaves: Chopped
Ginger: Paste
Oil: As required
Step-by-step preparation method
Here is the detailed recipe for making Sooji Paratha. First, take the semolina and place it in a large pan or kadhai; start roasting it over a low flame. Roast it until it turns light brown. Once it turns light brown, add water and bring the mixture to a boil. Once the mixture comes to a boil, add oil and salt. Keep stirring to ensure the semolina (sooji) blends well. Cook until the water is fully absorbed and the mixture thickens into a dough-like consistency. Remove it from the heat as soon as it forms a dough.
Transfer the mixture to a large bowl. Add wheat flour, chopped green chilies, fresh coriander, and ginger. Mix everything well and knead it into a soft dough.
Now, shape the dough into flatbreads (parathas). You can make them round or—to make them appealing to children—shape them like hearts or any other design you prefer.
Heat a frying pan and place the shaped paratha on it. Cook it while applying oil to both sides, letting it fry on the pan until it becomes golden and crispy.
Once the paratha is cooked through, remove it from the pan and serve it on a plate.
Your piping-hot semolina paratha is ready. You can enjoy it with green chili chutney or ketchup; it makes a great breakfast option and is also perfect for packing in children’s lunchboxes. Do give it a try!
