New Delhi: Former West Bengal Chief Minister and TMC chief Mamata Banerjee is facing a rough patch these days. On one hand, she is grappling with electoral defeat, while on the other, leaders who were once close to her are deserting the party. Additionally, TMC leaders are facing public ire. In the Halishahar area of the state’s North 24 Parganas district, residents and protesters attacked former CM Mamata Banerjee’s convoy.
She was on her way to meet the family of Birju Keot, a deceased TMC worker whose death in police custody had been alleged. During the protest, people hurled stones, shoes, and mud at Mamata Banerjee’s vehicle. Furthermore, some individuals shouted slogans calling her a “thief.” She was visiting the family of Birju Keot, who had died under suspicious circumstances while in the custody of the Halishahar police.
TMC MP Makes Allegations
Trinamool Congress MP Dola Sen stated that protesters surrounded the former CM’s vehicle and began shouting slogans of “thief, thief.” The situation quickly turned tense, and miscreants started throwing large stones, shoes, and mud at the vehicle. Following the incident, former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed her displeasure.
She remarked that large stones and shoes were thrown at her vehicle in the presence of the police. She noted that had the car window been open, her head could have been split open, resulting in a serious injury; in short, a tragic incident could have occurred.
“I have never witnessed such an atmosphere in my life. What exactly is going on here?” she asked. She alleged that the police failed to make adequate security arrangements and that anti-social elements were carrying out attacks right in front of the police. Mamata Banerjee also targeted the BJP over this incident.
Mamata Banerjee Targets BJP
Former CM Mamata Banerjee launched a scathing attack on the BJP. She alleged that law and order in the state has completely collapsed and claimed that the incident was orchestrated out of political vendetta. Kalyan Banerjee was also present with Mamata Banerjee at the time of the incident.
TMC leaders alleged that the local police had failed to make adequate security arrangements for the former Chief Minister’s visit. Meanwhile, during the protest, the crowd shouted slogans of “thief, thief” and began hurling shoes and mud at the vehicle.
Death of former TMC councillor’s husband in police custody
It is worth noting that Birju Keet,t the husband of Jenny Sharma Keet, a Trinamoocouncilloror who had resigned from Ward 23 of the Kanchrapara Municipality, died while in the custody of the Halisahar police. Making serious allegations, Jenny Sharma stated that the police beat her husband inside the lock-up, leading to his death.
