New Delhi: Former Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who left her country, is once again making headlines. On Wednesday, she lashed out at the Bangladeshi government during a press conference and made several significant statements. However, the Bangladeshi government lodged a strong protest with India regarding her virtual press conference. This marked the first time in two years that Sheikh Hasina publicly addressed the media.
The Bangladeshi government claimed it had previously warned the Indian government about the potential impact of the event, yet permission was granted for it to take place. Dhaka described India’s move as detrimental to efforts aimed at improving bilateral relations and claimed it hurt the sentiments of the Bangladeshi people.

The Bangladeshi Foreign Ministry alleged that during the event, Sheikh Hasina and her associates made harsh and objectionable remarks against Bangladesh and its people. Dhaka stated that it had previously conveyed its concerns to the Indian government regarding the potential repercussions of the event.
Despite this, the event was allowed to proceed, a decision Dhaka deeply regretted. According to the ministry, this could adversely affect the process of normalising bilateral relations between the two nations.
Insult on the Second Anniversary of the Revolution
The Bangladeshi government’s statement noted that on the very day the public was observing the second anniversary of the ‘July Revolution,’ Sheikh Hasina’s interaction from Indian soil constituted a grave insult to Bangladesh’s sovereignty and the martyrs of the revolution. Furthermore, the Foreign Ministry claimed that the event insulted the citizens, including children,n who had sacrificed their lives during the revolution of July and August 2024.
