Odisha-Andhra Weather LIVE: Deep depression crosses coast, heavy rain alert issued
A deep depression formed in the Bay of Bengal has crossed the coast of northern Andhra Pradesh and southern Odisha. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the system crossed the coast near Kalingapatnam and is now moving slowly in the northwest direction. Due to its effect, heavy to very heavy rains are likely to continue in many parts of Odisha and Andhra Pradesh.
Even after landfall, the weather threat has not completely ended. According to IMD, the Deep Depression is likely to maintain its current intensity for the next 12 hours. Thereafter, it is likely to gradually weaken over the next 24 hours.
Apart from Odisha and Andhra Pradesh, the Meteorological Department has also issued a warning regarding rain in the surrounding states. The administration has taken precautionary measures in many areas and sensitive areas are being monitored.

According to the IMD, the Deep Depression reached the coast of North Andhra Pradesh late Wednesday night. Its centre was close to Kalingapatnam and the system moved over land, crossing the coastal parts of North Andhra Pradesh and South Odisha.
During landfall, heavy rains along with strong winds were recorded in coastal areas. The Meteorological Department had already advised fishermen and local administration to keep an eye on the situation. Even after crossing the coast, the impact of rain is expected to remain in many districts.
Now the Deep Depression is expected to gradually weaken. However, due to its west-northwestward movement, rain may continue over Odisha, Andhra Pradesh and adjoining states for some time to come.
Heavy rain warning issued for several districts in Odisha
The impact of a deep depression is threatening heavy rain in southern and interior Odisha. The IMD has warned of extremely heavy rainfall in some areas, following which the local administration has been put on alert.
The rain is likely to cause flooding in low-lying areas, disruption of road traffic and localised waterlogging. Schools have also been closed as a precautionary measure in some districts.
