Matar Paneer

Matar Paneer is one of India’s most popular dishes. It’s made by cooking green peas and paneer in a spicy tomato-onion gravy. Its delicious taste is a favorite among children and adults alike. People eat Matar Paneer with roti, paratha, naan, or rice. This dish is a daily staple in homes and is also made for festivals and events.

Ingredients

  • Paneer (200g) (chopped into pieces)
  • Green peas (1 cup)
  • Onion (finely chopped)
  • Tomato (finely chopped into a paste)
  • Green chilies
  • Ginger garlic paste (1 small spoon)
  • Oil or ghee (2 tablespoons)
  • Cumin (half a small spoon)
  • Turmeric powder (1/4 teaspoon)
  • Red pepper powder (1 small spoon)
  • Coriander powder (1 teaspoon)
  • Garam masala (half a teaspoon)
  • Salt (1/2 cup)
  • Fresh coriander

How to make Pea Paneer

First, wash the peas thoroughly. If they are fresh, soak them for 5 to 7 minutes.

Let it heat up and then cut the paneer into square pieces.

Now heat oil in a pan, add cumin seeds and let it crackle.

After that add finely chopped onions and fry till it turns golden.

Then add ginger garlic paste and chopped green chillies and cook for a minute.

Now add tomatoes and cook them well and when tomatoes get melted and oil starts separating from the spices, then add turmeric, red chilli powder, coriander powder and salt and then mix the spices well and fry.

After that, mix the soaked peas well with the lentils and spices.

Then add half a cup of water, heat the pan and cook on low flame. But keep in mind that cooking for a long time can make the paneer hard.

Then add the garam masala at the end and mix it lightly. Then turn off the gas and garnish the dish with coriander leaves.
