Opposition attacks government after BRICS summit
Following the BRICS summit in New Delhi, the opposition has begun targeting the central government on various issues. While the Congress questioned the vegetarian dinner menu served to foreign guests during the conference, the Samajwadi Party expressed its objection to the BRICS results.
The Samajwadi Party says that more concrete initiatives were expected from BRICS towards stopping the ongoing wars and conflicts in the world. The party questioned that if such a large international platform existed, why was it not used more effectively for global peace.
Meanwhile, Congress’s controversy arose over the menu of the gala dinner organised for BRICS leaders. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s social media post highlighted the popularity of non-vegetarian food in India, sparking a political war of words between the BJP and the Congress.
Congress raises questions about the vegetarian menu
Guests at the gala dinner held at the Bharat Mandapam during the BRICS summit were served vegetarian food based on Indian cuisine. The menu included Khandvi, Mushroom Galouti, Paneer Lababdar, Millet Pulao and other Indian dishes.
Congress targeted the Central Government regarding this menu. The party said that in a diverse country like India, food preferences are also very diverse and this diversity should be taken into account in the programmes organised for international guests.
Rahul Gandhi also praised non-vegetarian food on social media while mentioning the food preferences of Indians. After this, BJP leaders accused Congress of politicizing the food issue.
The BJP called the Congress allegations political.
Following the Congress attack, the BJP also responded. Ruling party leaders questioned the Congress’ stand, saying there was nothing wrong in showcasing India’s traditional and regional food culture at an international conference like BRICS.
Millets i.e. Shri Anna was also given prominence in the menu of the gala dinner. The food attempted to present the flavours and traditional dishes of different Indian regions in a modern touch.
The political debate between the two parties intensified on this issue. However, the core agenda of the conference included major issues such as global economy, peace, trade, energy and international cooperation.
Samajwadi Party questions BRICS results
Following Congress, Samajwadi Party also reacted to the BRICS summit. The party said that in view of the serious situations like war and conflict facing the world, more concrete results were expected from the conference.
According to the Samajwadi Party, BRICS has the potential to bring together the world’s major economies and influential countries on one platform. In such a situation, this platform could have been used more effectively to prevent wars and find solutions through dialogue.
The party’s remarks come at a time when tensions persist in many parts of the world, including the Middle East. The BRICS New Delhi Declaration also expressed concern over the increasing violence in the Middle East and called for maximum restraint and a diplomatic solution.
BRICS Declaration Addresses the Issue of War and Global Tensions
