New Delhi: Ahead of Diwali, the Uttar Pradesh government has offered a major gift to millions of families. On the occasion of Diwali, a subsidy for LPG cylinder refills will be provided to over 18.9 million (1.89 crore) eligible families in the state. The state government will spend a total of ₹1,500 crore for this purpose.

The Yogi Adityanath-led government will provide significant financial assistance for LPG cylinder refills. This benefit will be exclusively available to families covered under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana. This is being viewed as a major announcement for those in need ahead of Diwali.

While offering this significant gift to those in need ahead of Diwali, CM Yogi Adityanath stated that the state government would benefit over 18.9 million families by allocating ₹1,500 crore. The LPG cylinder subsidy will be extended only to eligible families. The most notable aspects of this announcement are the number of beneficiaries and the total expenditure to be incurred by the government.

The state government is prepared to extend the benefits of this scheme to more than 18.9 million families. According to the government, this assistance will provide financial support to poor families for refilling their gas cylinders, helping to reduce household kitchen expenses during the festive season.

Who will receive this relief?

In his post, CM Yogi Adityanath also referred to the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana. Acknowledging Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he stated that the ‘double-engine’ government has prioritised providing clean cooking fuel to impoverished families. The CM noted that the Ujjwala Yojana has facilitated the delivery of gas connections to the kitchens of poor families, sparing women from the hazards of smoke-filled cooking environments and enhancing their health, convenience, and dignity.

In his post, Yogi Adityanath also took a sharp dig at the previous government. He remarked that when a government’s primary focus is its own family, the problems faced by the poor are inevitably left behind. Additionally, CM Yogi Adityanath claimed that during the tenure of the previous government, millions of mothers and sisters in the state were forced to cook in smoke-filled kitchens. Prioritising public welfare over dynastic politics, the government took steps to provide clean fuel to poor families.

Meanwhile, Yogi stated that the government endeavours to ensure that no poor family is forced to return to cooking on smoke-emitting stoves due to financial hardship. The government is committed to ensuring that the joy of Diwali remains in every home and that the light of convenience reaches every kitchen.
