In the last few years, obesity has been seen increasing rapidly among the youth. Earlier it was considered a problem related to increasing age, but now cases of obesity have started increasing among younger boys and girls and college students also. Changing lifestyle, eating habits and lack of physical activity are considered to be the major reasons behind this.

In today’s fast-paced life, youth are often consuming more of quickly prepared processed food, sugary drinks and junk food. Things like pizza, burgers, chips and packaged snacks may taste good, but they are considered high in calories and comparatively low in nutrition. When the body takes in more calories than required and does not burn that much energy, weight starts increasing.

Apart from this, increasing use of technology is also being considered an important reason. Spending long hours on mobile phones, laptops, gaming and social media reduces physical activity. Earlier, outdoor games and walking were more common, but now sedentary lifestyle i.e. routine with less movement is increasing.

Experts also believe that stress, disturbed sleep cycle and irregular eating habits can also increase the risk of obesity. Habits like late-night eating, less sleep and emotional eating can gradually affect the body. However, every person’s body type and health condition is different, hence the reasons may also be different in every case.

Many health experts consider habits like a balanced diet, regular movement, proper sleep, and hydration to be helpful for overall well-being. Changes don’t have to be huge, sometimes even small healthy habits can make a difference in the long run. Such as daily walking, home workouts, drinking more water, or reducing junk food intake.
