On wednesday, The central government blamed sonam wangchuk for the violent clashes in ladakh. the violence led to the death of four people and left around 70 injured. In a statement, the home ministry said that despie requests from several leaders to end his hunger strike, wangchuk continued with it. the minstry claimed that his actions and statements provoked the youth, which create unrest in the region. According to the officials, this situation turned into violent clashes causing heavy loss of life and injuries. the government also expressed concern over how peaceful protests were turned into violence, putting public safety at risk. the union home ministry released a statement saying that except for some ufortunate incidents on wednesday morning, the situation in ladakh was brought under the control byv 4 pm the same day. the ministry urged everyone not to circulate old or provocative videos on media and social media, as it could disturb peace.
Sonam Wangchuk And His hunger Strike
The statement further added that the government is fully committed to addressing the aspirations of the people of ladakh. It also assured that enough costitutional safeguards will be provided to protect the region’s interests and ensure stability. the ministry emphasized that maintaing peace is the priority while meeting people’s demands. The Home ministry said that sonam wangchuk began his hunger strike on september 10, demanding statehood for ladakh and its includion under the sixth schedule of the constitution. in this statement the ministry highlighted that the government of india has been actively engaging with both the apex body of leh and kargil democratic alliance.

According to the recent reports, several meetings have already been held with these groups both through formal channels like high powered committee and its sub committee as well as through informal discussions with the leaders. the Ministry further informed that the next meetng of the high powered committee is scheduled for october 6,while additional meetings with ladakh leaders are planned for september 25 and 26. the ministry stated that the ongoing dialogue mechanism has already delivered significant results for ladakh. among the key outcomes, the reservations for scheduled tribed in the region was increased from 45 percent to 84 percent, marking a historic step. additionally, one third reservation for women in councils has been introduced to strengthen the representation. the government also recognized bhoti and purgi as offical languages, addressing a long standing demand of the local communities.
