ICC Greenlights PCB’s Proposal

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had warned it might skip its upcoming Asia Cup match against the United Arab Emirates (UAE), alleging that match referee Andy Pycroft mishandled a post-match incident and violated ICC regulations.

The dispute stems from the India–Pakistan Asia Cup 2025 game, after which Indian players chose to forgo the customary handshake to honor the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack, which killed 26 people.
PCB officials claimed Pycroft failed to address the situation properly and even demanded his removal.

ICC’s Response

According to PCB sources, the International Cricket Council agreed to adjust match-official appointments.
Veteran referee Richie Richardson is expected to oversee Pakistan’s fixture against the UAE, replacing Pycroft for Pakistan’s games—though no formal ICC announcement has been issued.
While the PCB had sought Pycroft’s complete removal from the tournament, the compromise ensures he will not officiate Pakistan’s matches.

Relief for PCB Leadership

The decision offers a measure of relief to Mohsin Naqvi, PCB chairman and current Asian Cricket Council (ACC) president.
A rejection of Pakistan’s appeal could have weakened his position and risked an estimated USD 16 million in revenue had Pakistan withdrawn from the tournament.

High-Stakes Clash Ahead

With the dispute resolved, Pakistan will face the UAE in a decisive group-stage match tonight.
The winner will progress to the Super Four, while the losing team’s Asia Cup campaign will come to an end.
