Mitchell Starc retires from international T20

Mitchell Starc Retirement T20: Throughout his career, Starc has been one of India’s most formidable bowlers. He has defeated the Men in Blue in 47 games, taking 103 wickets overall.

After a journey that started in 2012, Australia’s top pacer Mitchell Starc has declared his retirement from T20 Internationals.

After playing in the 2024 T20 World Cup match against India, the left-arm quick signed off after playing 65 T20Is and taking 79 wickets. After leg-spinner Adam Zampa, he is Australia’s second-highest wicket-taker in T20Is.

Overall performance in comparison to India

Starc has been one of the toughest bowlers India has faced across formats. He has defeated the Men in Blue in 47 games, taking 103 wickets overall.

Tests: 66 wickets at a best of 6/48 in 23 matches (43 innings). He produced 128 maiden overs while bowling 690 overs at an economy rate of 3.42.

ODIs: a maximum of 6/43 and 30 wickets in 19 games. Key performances in high-pressure games, such as the 2023 ODI World Cup final, in which Australia won the title, are part of his ODI record.

India is not his most effective opponent in the shortest format, and he has taken 7 wickets in 5 games. He has taken 15 wickets apiece against Pakistan and Sri Lanka in his finest T20I performances.

What will happen to Starc next?

Starc will continue playing Tests and ODIs while taking a break from T20Is. He will concentrate on important series like the Ashes, the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, and the lead-up to the 2027 ODI World Cup.

Starc’s remarks regarding retirement

Starc declared on Tuesday that “test cricket is and has always been my main priority.”

I believe this is the greatest approach for me to stay healthy, fresh, and at my best for the 2027 ODI World Cup, the Ashes, and an away tour to India,” he continued.

George Bailey, Australia’s chief selector, gave Starc a laudatory homage.

Bailey stated, “It is pleasing that he stays focused on continuing to play Test and ODI cricket for as long as possible, but we will appreciate and celebrate his T20 career at the proper moment.”
