Ashwin retired from IPL
Ravichandran Ashwin, a former spinner for India, has declared his intention to retire from the Indian Premier League. Ashwin, who spent 15 seasons representing several franchises, revealed social networking platform X on Wednesday.
As his “time as an IPL player comes to a finish today,” Ashwin tweeted, “Special day and hence a special beginning.” He also stated that he will now look into chances in franchise leagues across the globe.

Among the most successful spinners in IPL history, Ashwin played in 221 matches, took 187 wickets, and was essential to the campaigns of the Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings. For the “wonderful experiences and contacts” he had made over the years, he thanked the BCCI, the IPL, and the clubs he played for.
Ashwin announced his plan to stop competing internationally in December of last year.
The 38-year-old announced his retirement from international cricket last December, midway through the Australia series.
Most people know Ashwin for his heroics in Test cricket, when he finished with almost 500 wickets. He was helpful even in white-ball cricket, though, as seen by his international bowling statistics.
The Tamil Nadu cricketer was a useful batsman in the red-ball format, where he has six hundreds. He famously hit the game-winning runs in the 2022 T20 World Cup match against Pakistan at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) in white-ball cricket.

The IPL journey of Ashwin
Ashwin played for the Delhi Capitals, Rajasthan Royals, Kings XI Punjab (as captain), Chennai Super Kings, and Rising Pune Supergiant. He was a member of the 2010 and 2011 CSK championship teams, and after eight years away, he rejoined his home team in 2025.
His return, meanwhile, was lackluster as he only played in nine of the 14 games, which was his fewest IPL season appearances since his 2009 debut, and he recorded his highest season economy rate.
