The advisory emphasizes preventive measures, especially in crowded and enclosed spaces, while recommending the use of face masks as a precaution.
Over the past few weeks, Punjab has witnessed a noticeable surge in COVID-19 infections, mirroring a national trend that has sparked concern among health experts. While hospitalizations remain under control, the rise in daily cases has prompted the state administration to act preemptively to avoid a repeat of earlier waves.
Health Department
The Health Department has urged citizens, especially the elderly, individuals with pre-existing medical conditions, and those with low immunity, to exercise greater caution. Wearing masks in public places particularly in hospitals, marketplaces, public transport, and large gatherings has been strongly advised. Though not mandated yet, officials hinted that mandatory mask rules could be reintroduced if cases continue to rise.
Speaking on the current situation, a senior official from the Punjab Health Department stated, “We are closely monitoring the daily case counts and hospital admissions. While the situation is not alarming yet, proactive steps are essential to safeguard public health.”
Instructions
The advisory also includes instructions for all hospitals and health centers to ensure they are equipped with sufficient testing kits, oxygen supplies, and isolation beds. Surveillance teams have been asked to keep track of suspected cases, especially in urban areas where transmission is typically faster.
Citizens have been reminded of the basic COVID-appropriate behaviors frequent handwashing, maintaining physical distance, avoiding crowded areas, and staying home in case of any flu-like symptoms. The state has also encouraged individuals to get their booster vaccine doses if they haven’t already, particularly the vulnerable population.
Educational institutions and workplaces have been advised to improve ventilation and encourage remote attendance or hybrid models if feasible. Travelers arriving from other states or countries showing symptoms have been advised to get tested and isolate if required.
As the situation develops, the Punjab government has assured that it will keep the public informed with timely updates and guidelines. For now, officials are counting on public cooperation to help control the spread of the virus and prevent further escalation.
