New Delhi: The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) appears to be gearing up for the assembly elections scheduled for February and March 2027. BSP supremo Mayawati has announced that the party will contest the upcoming assembly elections entirely on its own, meaning it will not ally with any other party. During a meeting, Mayawati emphasised that the party’s mission to uplift the Bahujan community and the exploited sections of society remains paramount.
She stated that attaining power is crucial to advancing this mission. Consequently, the BSP has decided to enter the electoral fray solo, without relying on any alliances. Amidst this, she dealt a significant setback to Akash Anand by describing him as lacking maturity.
Mayawati’s major statement regarding Akash Anand
Former Chief Minister Mayawati made a surprising statement during the BSP meeting. She said that while Akash Anand is permitted to work within the party, he will not be entrusted with any major responsibilities for the time being. The BSP supremo added that Akash Anand still needs to mature.
Therefore, although he will have the opportunity to work within the party, the decision to assign him a major role has been deferred. This decision by Mayawati is being viewed as a significant shift in the party’s electoral strategy; the party will now proceed with a policy of contesting all elections—from local to major ones—independently.
Furthermore, the former Chief Minister reiterated that the party’s top priority is its mission to safeguard the interests of the Bahujan community and bring the exploited sections of society to power. She clearly stated that attaining power is essential to achieving this goal.
Mayawati has taken action against Akash Anand previously.
This is not the first time Mayawati has taken action against Akash Anand; she has removed him from his position in the past as well. On May 7, 2024, she removed him from the roles of BSP National Coordinator and her political successor. At that time, the BSP chief had cited a lack of political maturity as the reason for the move. Meanwhile, about a month and a half later, on June 23, 2024, following the Lok Sabha elections,s she reinstated Akash as National Coordinator and her successor.
Subsequently, on March 2, 2025, Mayawati removed Akash from all positions, including that of National Coordinator; he was then expelled from the party on March 3. In April 2025, Akash made a dramatic comeback to the BSP, publicly apologising while acknowledging Mayawati as his political mentor and role model.
