Head coach Gautam Gambhir will be under pressure to win this series before the Champions Trophy. Under Suryakumar Yadav’s leadership, the Indian team is eager to get back to winning ways. They won’t hesitate to make tough decisions and try new strategies to achieve this.
Newly appointed T20 vice-captain Axar Patel spoke to reporters on Monday after practice at Eden Gardens Stadium. He said, “What’s done is done; it cannot be changed. It’s important to approach the next series with a positive mindset. Not much has changed yet. We have a stable T20 team, and it’s crucial to trust each other and make the right decisions.”
Team India will play the first match of the five-match T20 series against England on January 22 at Eden Gardens.
According to Axar Patel, only the opening pair (Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma) has been finalized. All other batsmen will need to be flexible with their batting order. It was decided at the beginning of 2024 that only the opening combination would be fixed.
From the third to the seventh positions, batsmen must adapt based on the situation and team composition, as using the right batsman at the right time is crucial in T20 cricket. This means players like the captain, vice-captain, Hardik Pandya, Rinku Singh, Tilak Varma, and Nitesh Kumar Reddy might have to take on new roles.
Cricket analysts believe this is part of the strategy for the T20 World Cup to be held in India next year. The Indian team is determined not to miss out on the chance to win the title at home.
