Most people buy puffed rice from the market, but did you know that you can make even crispier puffed rice at home using an easy recipe? Let’s learn the full recipe.

Ingredients for Making Murmura at Home

This recipe doesn’t require many ingredients. You can make it just like the one you make outside with basic ingredients. Ingredients you’ll need:

  • 1 cup raw rice
  • 2 to 3 teaspoons salt
  • Water, as needed
  • Coarse salt or rock salt, as needed
  • 1 to 2 teaspoons oil, optional
  • A heavy-bottomed pan or cooker

Step 1:
First, you need to collect the rice. After collecting it, clean it thoroughly. Rinse it thoroughly with water.

Soak the washed rice in enough water for about 3 to 4 hours.

Step 2:
Now it’s time to cook the rice. Drain the soaked rice and put it in a pot. Add enough water to cook the rice thoroughly.

Once the rice is cooked, set it aside.

Step 3:

Now it’s time to dry the rice. This is the most important part of making puffed rice. Transfer the cooked rice to a large tray or plate. Or, if you prefer, spread it in a thin layer on a cloth. Now, dry the rice in the sun. Once the rice is dry, remove it from the sun after a few hours.

Step 4:
Now, heat a pressure cooker and place it on the gas stove. Let it heat thoroughly for a few minutes. After this, reduce the heat to medium and add the rice that you had placed in the stove to dry. After adding the rice, close the cooker with the lid. Do not whistle; simply place the lid on the plate.

Step 5:
Wait for the rice to swell. Once covered, wait until the rice has puffed up. As soon as the grains puff up and become light and crispy, remove them immediately.

Step 6:
Cool the puffed rice. Let the rice you’ve prepared cool. Transfer the puffed rice to a large plate or tray and let it cool completely. Once cooled, prepare it as bhel (bhel).

If you want to enhance the flavor of the puffed rice, you can add your favorite namkeen, a little salt, roasted cumin powder, or chaat masala. Alternatively, you can add your favorite vegetables, such as finely chopped onions and tomatoes, to the puffed rice.
