New Delhi: US President Donald Trump has been making headlines recently with his bold statements regarding the systems of other countries. In this context, he has taken a distinct stance on the ongoing protests in France concerning the poor state of schools and demands for educational reform. Trump claimed that the movement in France is not about school-related issues but is instead linked to mass uncontrolled migration and Islam.

In reality, the protesting students, teachers, and parents are primarily voicing their opposition to the lack of resources, teacher shortages, and poor infrastructure in schools. On Tuesday, more than 250,000 people across France participated in the protests.

Donald Trump Makes a Bold Statement

US President Donald Trump made a significant statement via social media on Tuesday. Commenting on the situation in France on his platform, Truth Social, he attributed the protests to uncontrolled migration. He asserted that the issue is not about schools but rather an attempt to take over France.

Students Take to the Streets Over Poor School Conditions

Crowds of students protesting against the education system have been seen on the streets of France. On Tuesday, large numbers of students, teachers, and parents took to the streets to demand better facilities and increased funding for schools. Their grievances include teacher shortages, overcrowded classrooms, dilapidated buildings, poor maintenance, and a lack of essential school amenities.

The protests began in September in lower-income areas adjacent to the French capital, Paris. The movement subsequently spread nationwide, mounting pressure on President Emmanuel Macron’s government.

Clashes with Police in Several Cities

It is worth noting that the protests have remained peaceful in many parts of France. Protesters in Marseille and Nantes chanted slogans regarding the state of the education system, while parents also joined the march in Toulouse. The situation turned tense in several cities, including Strasbourg, Lyon, and Rennes; some protesters engaged in arson and threw objects at the police, prompting the use of tear gas.

Meanwhile, there is a discrepancy between union and government figures regarding the number of schools affected by the protests. According to the Union Syndicale Lycéenne, approximately 2,000 high schools remained closed. In contrast, the Ministry of Education reported that classes were fully or partially disrupted in 891 schools.

Migration as a Political Issue

US President Donald Trump’s remarks are also being linked to American domestic politics. Ahead of the upcoming midterm elections, the Republican Party appears to be making migration a key campaign issue. Groups supporting Donald Trump have also reacted to the protests in France. On Monday, Trump ally Glenn Beck described the protests in France as a warning to Western nations.
