New Delhi: Monsoon rains have once again wreaked havoc across several states, leading to a dire situation. In Bihar, conditions deteriorated drastically due to the floods, leaving behind a trail of devastation. The surging floodwaters have disrupted people’s lives and peace of mind, forcing many across the state to seek shelter in relief camps. Overcrowding at these camps is so severe that many are forced to spend the night under the open sky.
Women, the elderly, and children are all facing significant hardships. Amidst this, Bihar’s Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary has announced relief payments for the flood victims. He has instructed officials to ensure the disbursement of ₹7,000 to each affected person, a move that will benefit a large number of farmers.
CM Conducts Aerial Survey
On Wednesday, Bihar Deputy CM Samrat Chaudhary visited flood-affected areas, including West Champaran, to assess the damage. He also inspected a flood relief camp at Bathna in the Bairia block of West Champaran. There, he served food to people at the community kitchen and inquired about the facilities being provided at the camp.
Additionally, Chaudhary inspected the arrangements for medical care, clean drinking water, sanitation, livestock shelters, and accommodation for the displaced. He also interacted with affected families to understand their grievances and challenges.
When Will Relief Be Provided?
Deputy CM Samrat Chaudhary has directed officials to expedite relief and rescue operations. He emphasised that community kitchens must continue to operate until the situation returns to normal. Instructions were also issued to ensure the provision of adequate dry rations and other relief materials to the flood-affected population. During the review meeting with officials, preparations for distributing financial relief to the affected families were also discussed.

According to reports, full preparations have been made to transfer ₹7,000 per family via DBT on October 9. Earlier, on September 15, ₹7,000 had been transferred to the accounts of 827,472 flood-affected families in Bihar; the government had released a total of ₹579.23 crore through DBT for this purpose.
Flood Solution Soon
Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary stated that the flood situation in Bihar has arisen due to water flowing from the Terai region of Nepal. He further mentioned that a survey of the Kosi and Mahananda rivers is being conducted to understand the flood problem and work towards a permanent solution. He added that the water is likely to recede from several areas over the next two to three days. Officials have been instructed to continue relief operations until the affected people return home and the situation returns to normal.
