New Delhi: A meeting of the INDIA alliance regarding the Election Commission took place in the capital, Delhi, on Wednesday, where opposition parties held detailed discussions on their future strategy. The meeting lasted nearly three hours, during which a consensus was reached on coordination for the upcoming battle. Meanwhile, Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge made a significant statement.
He stated that during the meeting, which lasted about three and a half hours, all parties reached a consensus to fight the upcoming battle together. Kharge further mentioned that leaders from some parties joined the meeting online, and figures ranging from Uddhav Thackeray to Hemant Soren presented their views. Six key points were highlighted during the discussion.
According to Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, Mamata Banerjee, and other leaders offered their suggestions during the meeting. He stated that the INDIA alliance will now jointly conduct programs addressing issues related to the electoral process and voter lists.
‘Save Democracy’ Campaign to Launch Nationwide
Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge announced that the INDIA alliance has decided to organise ‘Save Democracy’ marches across the country from October 2 to October 8. He added that marches and demonstrations would be held at the district level during this period.
An appeal has been made for leaders and workers from opposition parties, as well as organisations working on democracy-related issues, to participate. Kharge further stated that the objective is to raise public awareness regarding issues concerning the electoral process, voter lists, and democratic rights.
March to the Election Commission on October 6
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge stated that opposition MPs would march to the Election Commission’s office on October 6. He noted that while there had been earlier talk of holding the event on a different date, October 6 was finalised after considering the availability of all MPs.
Before this, the opposition parties had also made the demand for the removal of CEC Gyanesh Kumar a key issue in the INDIA alliance’s campaign. A joint strategy regarding the Election Commission, voter lists, and transparency in the electoral process was discussed during the opposition alliance meeting.
Opposition parties to seek a meeting with the President.
The Congress President stated that opposition leaders would seek an appointment to meet the President in the second week of October. The plan is to present the opposition’s concerns regarding the electoral process and voter lists to the President during this meeting. He added that the opposition wants its concerns regarding these issues involving the Election Commission and the government to be raised at the constitutional level as well.
