New Delhi: The flood tragedy in Nepal has proven just how unpredictably life can shatter, scattering like autumn leaves. Happy families and cherished dreams can be destroyed in an instant. A sudden flood caused by a glacial burst has wreaked such havoc in Nepal that the death toll continues to rise.
According to the latest information, the death toll in Nepal has reached 752. Approximately 3,000 people remain trapped under the debris of buildings and within tunnels. Chinese nationals are among the missing. Relief and rescue operations are ongoing. India has dispatched rescue teams in addition to sending relief supplies. Efforts to extract those trapped in tunnels and under the rubble are underway, and the death toll is likely to rise further.
Meanwhile, the United States has also provided humanitarian aid to help Nepal cope with the disaster. People are currently distressed by the natural disaster that has struck the Bhote Koshi and Trishuli river valleys, where relief does not appear to be forthcoming.
Rescue Team Dispatched from India
To move people stranded by the floods in Nepal to safety, the Indian government has sent an 11-member team that has already commenced operations. The team comprises tunnel experts, doctors, and paramedics. Working alongside local security forces and rescue workers, the Indian team is making strenuous efforts to reach those trapped beneath the debris.
Additionally, China is providing technical support for the relief and rescue operations. Despite global cooperation, the pace of the operation remains slow due to adverse weather conditions and the massive accumulation of debris within the tunnels.
Forensic Team from India Arrives in Nepal
Efforts are underway to rescue people trapped in the debris washed into the tunnels. So far, more than 8,000 people have been safely rescued. As a neighbouring nation, India is extending assistance to Nepal at every level. The Indian Ambassador confirmed that a forensic team from India has arrived in Nepal. This team will assist Nepali officials in analysing DNA samples to identify the bodies.
US Sends Significant Financial Aid
Amid the flood tragedy in Nepal, the US Embassy announced on Sunday that the United States has provided over $3.6 million in humanitarian aid to those affected by the devastating floods. This assistance includes emergency food supplies for 10,000 families.
The US Embassy stated that it is working closely with the Government of Nepal and humanitarian organisations to ensure that aid reaches those affected by the catastrophic floods that struck the Himalayan nation on Wednesday. The Embassy shared this information via X.
