New Delhi: Following the conclusion of the ‘Cockroach Janata Party’ movement, a debate regarding E20 petrol is intensifying across the country. A new group, dubbed the ‘E20 Janata Party,’ has emerged on social media in opposition to E20 petrol, demanding the resignation of Union Minister Nitin Gadkari.
This group has even scheduled a march to Parliament for August 4, 2026. Meanwhile, people are wondering just how detrimental E20 petrol is. Will its extensive use damage vehicle engines? Will using this fuel lead to the rejection of insurance claims? The answer is no. According to the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, insurance claims cannot be rejected simply because E20 petrol was used.
How valid are the claims regarding insurance claim rejection?
Claims had been circulating that insurance claims might be rejected if a vehicle was fueled with E20 petrol. A clarification has now been issued regarding this. Recently, the BJP shared a post on X (formerly Twitter) urging customers to use E20 petrol without any apprehension, stating that the claims were entirely misleading and incorrect.
No motorist’s insurance claim will be rejected for using E20 petrol. The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas had previously issued a press note to dispel rumours surrounding ethanol-blended petrol, specifically addressing widespread claims concerning insurance, engine damage, and fuel quality.
E20 petrol will not damage the engine
The Ministry of Petroleum stated that it had investigated concerns that using E20 petrol could invalidate vehicle insurance policies. These concerns were found to be incorrect and baseless, and the government has categorically dismissed such claims. Ethanol-blended petrol will not cause any damage to the engine; the government emphasised that there is no scientific basis for such assertions.
E20 Petrol Scientifically Validated
According to the Ministry of Petroleum, the ethanol blending program has been scientifically validated. It is implemented only after consulting with marketing companies, vehicle manufacturers, and fuel testing agencies. The Ministry stated that since the introduction of E20 petrol in 2023, there have been no official reports of engine or vehicle damage attributed to ethanol blending.
The Ministry noted that the E20 petrol used for blending is produced through industrial processes. Strict quality standards are met before it is blended with petrol.
Opposition to E-20 Petrol
It is worth noting that E-20 petrol has faced opposition ever since the Government of India introduced it. Certain organisations are even preparing for a major protest regarding this issue. A social media page for the “E-20 Janata Party” has been created; under its banner, taxi and auto-rickshaw drivers are planning to challenge the government. There are claims that a march to Parliament will be held on August 4. However, the identity of the E-20 Janata Party’s founder has not yet been revealed.
