New Delhi: The Lok Sabha witnessed considerable commotion on Tuesday during the Parliament’s monsoon session. Samajwadi Party President and Kannauj MP Akhilesh Yadav fiercely targeted the central government. He described the actions of the Delhi Police as worse than the situation during the Emergency. He also held the ‘double-engine’ government accountable for the recurring incidents of paper leaks.
As former Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav spoke in Parliament, members seated behind him were seen thumping their desks to encourage him. He remarked that change had occurred after the Emergency, and this time too, the government would be voted out.
Akhilesh describes conditions worse than the Emergency.
Kannauj MP Akhilesh Yadav was addressing the Lok Sabha during the monsoon session. Tensions in the House soared when Union Minister Kiren Rijiju referred to the conditions during the Emergency. A discussion was underway regarding an amendment bill to tackle paper leaks. During this, Akhilesh Yadav questioned why a paper leak occurred even after a law was enacted in 2024.
“Minister, please explain this. What is the need for a second law after one has already been enacted?” He noted that they had to welcome the Minister in Parliament because he had averted a major crisis. In response, Kiren Rijiju asked if Akhilesh Yadav considered himself a socialist.
“I ask: if the government listens to students’ protests and introduces a bill, is that better, or would it have been better to impose an Emergency in the country to crush the protest? Akhilesh Yadav then responded in his characteristic style.
What happened during the Emergency was witnessed in Delhi now
Responding to Union Minister Kiren Rijiju’s question, Akhilesh Yadav said, “I did not witness the Emergency myself, but I have now seen in Delhi what actually happened during that time. Back then, electric shocks were not administered, but this time, electric shocks were used.
The SP chief stated, “You people are perpetrating injustice no less severe than that of the Emergency. If one recalls the Emergency, a change of government followed it. We are confident that change will happen again.” He further added that exams would only be conducted fairly if there was honest intent, not merely through legislation.
Government targeted over theft of temple offerings.
SP chief Akhilesh Yadav also raised the issue of the theft of offerings from the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya during the Lok Sabha session. He stated that God would never forgive them, as they were involved in the theft of offerings. He noted that not only were the standard offerings stolen, but secret donations were also pilfered; he added that this act does not merely fall under the category of a sin, but constitutes a ‘maha-paap’ (a grave sin).
