Onion pakodas are a very popular and tasty snack in India. Most people enjoy making and eating them in the evenings, during the rainy season, or during winter with a cup of hot tea. They are very easy to make and ready in no time. Their crispy crust and spicy aroma are loved by everyone.

To make onion pakodi you need some ingredients, let us explain in detail:

  • onion
  • chat masala
  • red chilli powder
  • gram flour
  • rice flour
  • turmeric powder
  • carom seed
  • salt
  • water

Method

To make onion pakodi, first of all you will have to take 2 big onions, then cut them into thin slices. Now put the chopped onions in a big vessel, then add one cup of gram flour, 2 tablespoons of rice flour to increase the crunchiness, then add 1 tablespoon of red chilli powder, half a quarter teaspoon of turmeric, 1 teaspoon of coriander powder, half a quarter teaspoon of cumin, 1 teaspoon of carom seeds and salt as per taste. And you have to make it a little spicy. So you can add finely chopped green chillies, green coriander and a little garam masala to it.

Now mix everything well, some water will start coming out from the onion. Due to which the mixture will start mixing together, if required then add some water and prepare the mixture but keep in mind that it should not become too thin because the mixture of pakodi should be thick, keep the mixture aside for about 10 minutes, so that the spices mix well together. Now put the oil in a pan and heat it on medium flame, when the oil gets heated well then take the mixture little by little and put it in the oil, keep in mind that do not put too many pakodas in the pan because they get cooked well in the oil, now keep turning the pakodas in between and fry them till they turn golden brown and crispy, after that take them out with a sieve and keep them on a tissue paper so that the tissue paper absorbs all the extra oil.

Now serve hot pya, ki pakodi with green chutney or tamarind chutney or tomato sauce, the taste will increase if eaten with ginger tea, if you like less oily food then you can also make it in the oven.

Onion pakodi is a delicious snack, which can be made for family, friends and relatives on any occasion, its crunchy taste and easy recipe makes it a favorite recipe in every household.
