New Delhi: The holy month of Sawan is set to begin on July 30, bringing the resounding chants of “Bam-Bam Bhole” back to the streets. During this devotional month of Shravan, large crowds of Lord Shankar’s devotees fill the roads. The police administration has already begun formulating rules and regulations for the Kanwar Yatra. This time, DJ setups must not exceed 12 feet in height or 10 feet in width.

Guidelines have also been issued to completely ban provocative songs. The administration aims to ensure the peaceful conduct of the Kanwar Yatra during the month of Shravan. These directives have been issued by Meerut police officials; the Superintendent of Police (SP) of Meerut has shared key details regarding these regulations. Here are the details.

Meerut Police Sets Rules for Kanwar Yatra

Meerut Superintendent of Police Vinayak Gopal Bhosale has laid down rules to ensure the Kanwar Yatra is successful and safe. The SP stated that DJ systems used during the Yatra must be limited to a height of 12 feet and a width of 10 feet; exceeding these dimensions is prohibited.

Additionally, the volume of the DJ systems must remain within prescribed limits to avoid causing inconvenience to devotees and the general public. During a meeting, the police issued clear instructions to DJ operators prohibiting the playing of provocative songs, as well as any obscene or objectionable content.

Songs or hymns that could disrupt social harmony or brotherhood will not be played; there is a complete ban on such material. Officials emphasised that the Kanwar Yatra is a festival of faith, and maintaining its dignity is everyone’s responsibility. Careful selection of songs for the DJ is essential, and all DJ operators have been instructed accordingly.

Traffic Flow to Remain Uninterrupted

Instructions have been issued to ensure the smooth flow of traffic on the roads during the Sawan Kanwar Yatra. The Meerut Police has directed DJ vehicle operators to ensure that their vehicles do not obstruct traffic under any circumstances, as this causes inconvenience to the general public. The police stated that DJ vehicles must operate only along the designated Kanwar Yatra route; no one will be permitted to deviate from this route. These guidelines have been issued to prevent traffic congestion during the pilgrimage.

Advice on Caution Near Power Lines

In addition to measures for preventing traffic jams and avoiding bhajans (devotional songs) that could disrupt social harmony, the Meerut Police has advised caution regarding overhead power lines. Officials instructed operators to exercise extra care when passing under overhead power lines with tall DJ vehicles to prevent untoward incidents. They emphasised the need for vigilance in areas prone to accidents. Furthermore, the police have issued instructions regarding the safety of the equipment installed on the DJ vehicles.
