New Delhi: Thunderstorms and rain are occurring across Delhi-NCR and several areas of Western Uttar Pradesh, bringing relief from the scorching heat as temperatures drop. Landslides in the hilly regions of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh have disrupted traffic on several routes. Daily life has been thrown out of gear due to the rainfall. Persistent rains have also made life difficult in the northeastern states.
There appears to be little chance of immediate relief from the rain. Morning showers in parts of Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh have led to a drop in temperatures. Heavy rain is also lashing the southern states. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued heavy rainfall warnings for several states across the country. Here are the details regarding the weather forecast.
Rain Warning for Delhi-NCR
According to the Meteorological Department, overcast skies are expected to persist. A warning for light to moderate rain has been issued for the region. The maximum temperature is likely to hover around 34 degrees Celsius. In Noida and Greater Noida, neighbouring Delhi, heavy to very heavy rainfall is predicted between July 28 and July 31.
An alert for intermittent rain has also been issued for Ghaziabad up to August 31. Strong winds blowing at speeds of 40–70 km/h are expected, along with the possibility of lightning. The Meteorological Department has also issued a heavy rain warning for Gurugram.
Weather Forecast for Other States
The Meteorological Department has issued an alert for heavy rain in several districts of Uttar Pradesh including Meerut, Prayagraj, Agra, Jhansi, Bareilly, and Mirzapur from July 28 to August 2. Warnings regarding heavy rainfall and lightning strikes have also been issued. Rain is expected in most districts of Bihar, including the capital Patna, as well as Gaya, Muzaffarpur, Purnia, and Bhagalpur.
Heavy rainfall is likely across the majority of the state’s districts. Meanwhile, a warning for torrential rain has been issued for regions across eastern and western Rajasthan, including Jaipur, Kota, Udaipur, Ajmer, and Jodhpur from July 28 to August 2. Warnings for thunderstorms and squalls have also been issued. Additionally, heavy rainfall is likely in several districts of Uttarakhand, including Dehradun, Nainital, Chamoli, and Pithoragarh, between July 28 and August 2.
Rain Expected Here Too
The Meteorological Department has forecast a spell of heavy rain for Himachal Pradesh’s Shimla, Mandi, Kullu, Kangra, and Chamba districts from July 28 to August 2; landslides are also possible in these hilly areas. Heavy rain and thunderstorms are predicted for Ranchi, Jamshedpur, Dhanbad, and Bokaro in Jharkhand during the same period. Meanwhile, torrential rain is expected in Jammu and Kashmir’s Srinagar, Jammu, Poonch, Rajouri, and Udhampur districts between July 29 and August 2.
