New Delhi: Tensions in the Middle East had previously disrupted LPG supplies, forcing people to queue up for cylinders. However, the situation has now significantly improved. Did you know that you can now get a cylinder delivered to your doorstep without even having a gas connection? You might be wondering how this is possible.
Quick-commerce platform Instamart has partnered with Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL). This partnership marks the launch of the country’s first on-demand LPG delivery service, offering great convenience to consumers. Essentially, you can now receive an LPG cylinder at home without needing a pre-existing gas connection. This raises questions: how do you book one without a connection? Are any documents required? You will find the answers to these questions below.

How to book an LPG cylinder without a connection
Booking an LPG cylinder will no longer be a hassle. First, you will need to complete the KYC (Know Your Customer) verification process. Fulfilling KYC requirements is mandatory for LPG delivery; only then will the order be processed as a refill.
You must hand over an empty LPG cylinder at the time of delivery. All orders confirmed on Instamart will be fulfilled through HPCL’s network of registered distributors.
No gas connection required
As part of the deal between Instamart and HPCL, Hindustan Petroleum has launched the ‘HP Navya’—a 10 kg composite LPG cylinder. Additionally, consumers can order a 5 kg metal LPG cylinder. This service makes booking gas much easier for working professionals, students, and tenants. The service has currently been launched in Bengaluru.
Gas level visibility
Strict safety standards will be adhered to regarding the cylinder. According to media reports, HPCL has stated that the HP Navya cylinder is introduced as a lightweight, rust-free alternative to traditional steel cylinders.
Furthermore, the cylinder features a translucent body, allowing customers to easily see the gas level inside. According to the company, this compact design is intended for small families and households that prefer a smaller cylinder or wish to acquire a secondary cylinder.

A scramble for LPG cylinders ensued.
It is worth noting that when tensions between the US and Iran were at their peak, the situation in the Middle East deteriorated. This led to a rise in crude oil prices in the global market and disrupted the movement of commercial vessels through the Strait of Hormuz. Iran deployed its military along this route and restricted the movement of commercial vessels. Consequently, a scramble for gas cylinders broke out in countries like India; people had to queue up at gas agencies, causing the situation to worsen significantly.
